Our daughter has had a step2 kitchen for forever, the boys play with it all the time- but I wanted something that was a bit more "boyish"!

Set up was a breeze. It took about 20 minutes start to finish and all I needed was a screwdriver. Once set up, I was surprised at how big the Master Carpenter Workshop was! Plenty big enough for three or four kids to gather round and build together!

The power drill and saw both make noise and add to the 'realness' of the workshop. The kids drill through the holes of the foam wood and 'saw' the pieces in half for what seems like hours sometimes!

The peg board provides storage for all the included tools. You can position the pegs up higher for older kids, or down lower for younger kids! There are plenty of drawers, doors and storage containers to store pieces in- but I would have liked to see a toolbox come with it! The kids have a hard time keeping all the pieces with the workshop and sometimes spend more time looking for missing pieces than actually playing.

The only thing that disappointed us with the Master Carpenter Workshop was the "indestructible" Durafoam. It is defiantly not indestructible. It took my 18 month old less than 2 minutes to bite through one and I find more and more each day with bite marks or missing pieces.

I am a step2 test drive mom. I received the Master Workshop for free to review! All opinions are my own!

This work bench takes a day to assemble and that's a big part of why I'm not giving it a great rating. The directions aren't too difficult to follow, but they could have made the project a lot easier by pre-drilling and re-ordering the steps. There's minimal storage for all the tools that come with the bench. The bench is pretty long - so consider where you're puting it and if you have room! A lot of the parts for organizing the bench are removable, which is fun for the kids but it's kind of a mess most of the time. The bench does come with a lot of parts and accessories that are fun though. The styrofoam "wood" pieces are cool to play with and put together, and the bench seems relatively sturdy. It's kind of pricey considering the cons.

Pros

  • Easy to put together

Cons

  • Drill Jammed

Best Uses

  • Imaginative Play
  • Motor Skills Development

Comments about Step2 The Home Depot Master Workshop:

You need to make the tools stronger--the power drill jammed the first time used. Also, the decals were all wrinkled and useless. His grandpa said it was fairly easy to put together.

Comments about Step2 The Home Depot Master Workshop:

This was a great addition to our preschool classroom. We teach classes ages 2 - 5 at different times during the week and each class loves to use this. This was one of the easiest things to put together. The instruction book was so easy to follow. I wish other instructions books were just like this one. The kids love to play with it and I love the wooden projects that come with it. Only downfall is I had one little boy put teeth marks in one of the pieces. He did not break it though. absolutely love this product. Well worth the money.

It was worth buying this version of the workbench! We bought it for my sons second birthday, and he loves it, his 7 year old sister thinks it's hers! This work bench is sturdy, it comes with a lot of accessories, so you don't have to buy the extras, it's all inclusive! It has lights, makes noise and surprisingly not too many small pieces!

I got this tool set for my 20 month old for Christmas. He and his big sister (3.5 yrs) LOVE it. It is really cute and has lots of cool features like a saw and drill that light up and move when you use them. It also comes with some foam "wood" blocks that can fit together to build things. Only caution is for younger kids that still put things in their mouth, they are soft and get teeth marks easily. We kept the smaller nut/bolt parts for later because my son was young and we thought they would just get lost in the Christmas new toy mess. I would definitely recommend this as a great toy. I can see this being played with for years to come!

My son loves to bang around with his tool set he previous had gotten, & we seen how well he was with the tools. So we purchased this for the first time & first time spending this much on a toy for my 17 month old, but he loves it! It looks nice, organization is nice, & the tools make noise & have lights. It's all realistic like for a work bench. Just hopefully you have steady hands to apply the decal stickers! I do. Then it took my fiance about an hour to set up, he's not the patient type though. & make sure you purchase batteries.

very sturdy , the only real problem is how the tools hang on the peg board hooks are not hooked enough and plastic bottle fall off to easy but overall very well put together I was surprised how easy it went together.
