The Ameda Manual Breast Pump is an excellent choice for mothers who pump their breast milk no more than once a day. Its ergonomic design reduces hand fatigue and lets mom adjust for wrist comfort. Use quick and light squeezes first, and slow and strong squeezes once milk flows. The convenient lunch-style tote helps keep mom organized and is great when on-the-go.

I used a double electric Ameda pump while my daughter and I were in the hospital. She was in an incubator for a while so I had to pump. When discharged, the nurses told me to just keep the manual pump that was included with the electric since they didn't rent pumps and I guess my insurance was already billed for it anyway. When I got home to try it out, I was pleasantly surprised. I got just as much milk as the electric in the same amount of time. Of course, it's not a double like the electric but I like being able to have one hand free. Follow the instructions- start with fast and short pumps, and then go into longer slower pumps. I'm very happy with this manual pump

In a bind, it will work, but not useful when trying to keep up with full meals for your child. I'm a working mom and I had to ditch the Ameda electric pump given to me by my insurance and the Ameda hand pump and splurge and by the Medela electric pump in order to produce enough to sustain my child. The Ameda products unfortunately just don't cut it. As far as hand pumps go, this exhausts your hand. In order to get a full 3-4 oz from each breast like the Medela will produce, you'd have to work very hard, exhaust yourself, and take a lot of time with this product. But if you just need to take a little off the top or don't have a means to use the electric pump (even though they have battery packs) then I guess this will get the job done, but I would not suggest this as your main means of pumping. You'll never be able to keep up with your child's needs.

Comments about Ameda 1020191 Ameda Manual Breast Pump:
This is an excellent hand pump. I was nervous to try a hand pump with my 3rd child as I had never used one before only electric. I was very surprised that I had great results in a short amount of time. It's nice to have and be able to pack in the diaper bag or purse for useWhen on the go.

The best style of hand pump

About Me First Time Parent, Parent of Two or More Children, Preemie parent
I have been an exclusively pumping mom 3 times now due to prematurity. I have tried multiple styles of hand pumps and this just is the most comfortable for your hands. You can easily use it as a one at a time or use two hand pumps and pump both sides at the same time.
I received this as a gift but its hard to use and tiring.

At first I was intimidated..

After having my daughter, the hospital sent me home with this pump. It took a lot of getting used to. But it helped me build up my supply a little more than I had before using it. I do have to stay though, not meant for someone that is left handed. It is tricky to get used to.
Best manual pump I've used

About Me Parent of Two or More Children, Stay at Home Parent
I've used this manual pump since my 8 year old was a baby. I've used it after 4 more kids. Other brands of manual pumps are ok but Ameda is my favorite. The suction is strong but not painful. I'm able to get a lot of milk with it. I like using it while my baby nurses on the other side.

After being admitted to the ER a few days postpartum I was worried about missing pump sessions to establish my supply, the hospital gave me one of these to use. Although it took longer than double pumping using an electric pump, it got the job done. Nice to have incase of emergencies.
Great, simple hand pump
I recieved this pump at mommycon in a swag bag from a breastfeeding seminar. I had only had one experience with a hsnd pump and it wasnt good. This pump has been so useful for me! Even tho it seems like a rather inexpensive pump i have gotten much better output with this then my double electric! Its great for travel and has saved me while riding in the car a few times. Its easy to take apart to wash and put back together. Every breastfeeding woman needs one of these!
Easy to use manual pump

I've only used this a few times but it was easy to use & I was able to express about the same as my electric pump....it just took longer. It came with my pump. I keep it in the car for emergencies.

I have this manual pump in my pump bag for a case of emergency situation. Only had to use it once when I forgot my car adapter during my oldest son's baseball tournament. It got the job done.
Great Manual Pump
I had one of these with my first and second child 14 and 8years ago. I recently received one and notice that the attached suction look thinner that the ones in the past. The top of the suction part broke easily after my daughter accidently knock it over.
