I used a double electric Ameda pump while my daughter and I were in the hospital. She was in an incubator for a while so I had to pump. When discharged, the nurses told me to just keep the manual pump that was included with the electric since they didn't rent pumps and I guess my insurance was already billed for it anyway. When I got home to try it out, I was pleasantly surprised. I got just as much milk as the electric in the same amount of time. Of course, it's not a double like the electric but I like being able to have one hand free. Follow the instructions- start with fast and short pumps, and then go into longer slower pumps. I'm very happy with this manual pump

In a bind, it will work, but not useful when trying to keep up with full meals for your child. I'm a working mom and I had to ditch the Ameda electric pump given to me by my insurance and the Ameda hand pump and splurge and by the Medela electric pump in order to produce enough to sustain my child. The Ameda products unfortunately just don't cut it. As far as hand pumps go, this exhausts your hand. In order to get a full 3-4 oz from each breast like the Medela will produce, you'd have to work very hard, exhaust yourself, and take a lot of time with this product. But if you just need to take a little off the top or don't have a means to use the electric pump (even though they have battery packs) then I guess this will get the job done, but I would not suggest this as your main means of pumping. You'll never be able to keep up with your child's needs.

This hand held pump is easy to use. The squeezing mechanism is gentle on your grip and hands. It is a bit squeaky, if you're trying to pump and nurse at night at the same time. Pulling strength is not as strong as an electric pump, just in case you were expecting that kind of strength.

Comments about Ameda 1020191 Ameda Manual Breast Pump:

Works well, very good product to supplement my other pumps. I also have the Medela manual pump and ameda purely yours electric pump. This is much easier to clean and easier to pump one handed than the Medela. Also I like how the parts are enterchangable wih the purely yours electric pump so it means fewer dishes to keep it sanitary between uses. One side comment is that it doesn't feel as sturdy as the Medela, but after a month of use multiple times a day I haven't noticed any wear. The carrying case is large enough to hold two sets of flanges so I can pump more than once per outing with clean parts.

Comments about Ameda 1020191 Ameda Manual Breast Pump:

I received this pump for free, due to Obamacare. Unfortunately, it is worth about what I paid (nothing!) I have used the same Medela Pump in Style for my first five children over the last 13 years, but decided to get a manual pump for travel. I have several complaints about this Ameda pump. *Because of the poor suction, the cup continuously falls off of the breast, causing the pump to no longer be one-handed. *The bags that come with the pump do not seal during pumping. I like to use the bags so that I can just seal and put into a freezer bag, then straight into my freezer when I get home. However, the bag will not zip lock around the pump, and there is a gap on each side of the bag when it is on the pump. If you move around too much, you risk bumping the bag, causing the milk to spill. There is also plenty of room for germs to get in the bag while pumping. *The biggest complaint I have is the sound! There is an awful squeaking sound EVERY time the pump is squeezed. So much for discreetly pumping in a restaurant or on an airplane. I will be purchasing a different pump with my own money.

I had to get this pump after going out for a big date night with husband and forgetting the electric pump at home. While it did the job it was extremely fatiguing on your hand and wrist, even with switching between hands, and I had a difficult time pumping the amount I normally produce with the electric pump. I actually had to have my husband milk me because my hand was so sore by the time I got to the second breast. Overall, good to have as an emergency back up but I would not use this as my primary means of pumping. Although if you're looking to build your grip strength this may the one for you.

I actually received this for free from the hospital before we were discharged. I feel sorry for anyone that had to pay money for this, cheapest pump ever. First off, the handle where you hold onto is so uncomfortable it makes my hand ache just after a few minutes. Second, I just cannot believe the price of this item for the quality your getting, SO NOT WORTH IT! Lastly the suction was terrible, I really have nothing good to say about this pump. Its just overall uncomfortable, which didn't help get the job done for me.

I love this hand pump. It's small, easy to assemble and easy to use. You can also control the suction by pressing more or less on the hand piston. I found that it works just as well if not better than the $40 Avent manual pump that I also purchased. My only complaint would be that the piston is a thin plastic where it connects with the green hand pump part, which broke on mine after about three weeks of use, and finding another piston to purchase has been difficult. If it wasn't for the difficulty in finding somewhere to purchase just the piston, I think I would give this 5 stars.
