This bottle has been great! With my second born, once she got a taste of a bottle, she didn't want to go back to the breast. So for my third born, I wanted to find a better system. This bottle has been the answer. It does not give that instant gratification of other brands. Still makes the baby work for the milk a little, as in nursing. I am so happy that Medela released this nipple. My ONLY negative is that the top is a little difficult to get snapped on. But a very minor detail that I can overlook. Especially since my son is 7 months and has had no problem switching from breast to bottle...and back!

I loved the idea of this nipple and was even willing to pay the outrageous price if it meant lessening nipple confusion. Unfortunately, he is a strong sucker so the milk comes out too quickly. You have to create a vacuum for the milk to flow into the part with the nipple - then the nipple itself has a huge hole. So when he stopped sucking, he would continue to get a large amount of milk, causing him to choke. It was a huge flop. Fortunately, my little guy isn't picky and the cheap, slow flow medela nipples are working well for us. When he stops sucking the milk immediately stops too. :) Medela needs to have at least a fast flow nipple on the end rather than a hole that's open more than 1/4 of an inch. I'm sure my baby isn't the only one who hasn't figured out the cause and effect of heavy sucking yet. :) The only positive I have is that I only bought one to try it out so at least I only wasted $20 and not the $200 worth I'd have purchased to get a full day's worth. It's crazy how expensive it is.

Comments about Medela Calma Breastmilk Feeding Nipple:
My son for what ever reason went on a nursing strike and refused to nurse on my left breast. I would pump that side and this was the only nipple he would take. I tried around 4 or 5 different brands and finally gave this a try and he got it on the first try.

Great bottle nipple! This was the first bottle nipple my baby used, previously having been solely breastfed for the first 4 weeks, and she took to it right away. Also, no increased gas!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Too hard to clean.
from Moreno valley
We've been trying to get baby to take it, but she's not having it. It's a hassle to clean also due to the many parts.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
The only nipple my son will take.
from Buffalo, NY
We have gone through trials of 4 different popular bottle brands only to stumble upon the calma. Yes, it's pricey, but my 2 week old son does amazing with it. The flow is perfect as it goes by his own sucking, so he totally regulates how much he takes at a time.
My son used this nipple and choked on it every time. I wasn't the one feeding him and he did actually use it but when I finally saw what people were telling me I sent the nipple back to Medela. It was so awful.
My baby refused to even try to latch on these. The nipples are very long and hard.
Not for formula!
from Fort Worth, TX
Needed a slower nipple than the "slow flow" as my three week old girl can eat 2 oz of formula in a minute while getting it all over her. Thought this would help. Doing a combo of breastfeeding with a supplement of formula. Packaging doesn't sag anywhere on the outside that it is NOT for use with formula which is what I'd hoped to use it for. Might try it in the future if I get the chance to pump extra but for now it was a useless purchase that I can't return.

I love it! The calma breastfeed bottles and nipple make sure the infant don't get to much milk at once and chock. The calma breastfeed nipple works with your baby sucking out the milk just like they do the breast.
Worked great for baby who had trouble latching.
from Grovetown GA
Had an early baby who was both lip and tongue tied. Since we were wary about giving a newborn both surgeries, we ended up pumping and bottle feeding breast milk. After trying multiple bottles with little success, we tried the calma nipples and baby took right to them.

Not great for a lazy baby
Fhis product has a great purpose. I have a very lazy feeder and the effort to get the milk was too much for her!
