This machine is great! We got it for our 4-year-old daughter for Christmas andshe loves it. It is by no means a "kid" machine, but it is easy enough for her to use and the whole family enjoys it. I highly recommend this product!

We purchased this at a Toys r Us store for our family for Christmas. We chose this particular machine because it had an iPad dock and featured an app for use. It also had a video-out feature for following scrolling lyrics on our TV (which was SUPER important to us, since our kids -- and us -- don't always know every word to every song).

We pre-loaded the Singing Machine App on Christmas Eve, and were even pleasantly surprised at the amount of songs included in the App for free (51 total, thus earning the one star in this review). Then upon unboxing and hooking the machine up for use, we discovered that the video wasnt working.

After studying the instructions, we found this disclaimer: "NOTE: Video out will NOT work while using any Apps, including the Singing Machine Mobile Karaoke App." SERIOUSLY!!

So, if you want to use video with the iPad, you're going to need glasses to read the lyrics because the App is poorly built and the scrolling lyrics are SMALL.

The product box (at least to us) is quite misleading. You're made to think that you can dock in your iPad, pop open their proprietary App and sing along with up to 8,000 songs and lyrics (with subscription to their service, of course) by using video cables. However, you'll have to sit with your face 6 inches from the iPad screen if you need the assistance of scrolling lyrics.

TERRIBLY disappointing! We've since returned the machine and are still in search of a better alternative.

We'd consider re-purchase if the App developers fixed this important detail.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Nothing like getting your child something on Christmas, their biggest gift, and the stinkin' thing doesn't work. Can't figure this thing out...cant hear your vocals at all with the songs. Thought it would have put the lyrics on the iPad, nope. Thought iTunes downloaded songs would show up on the iPad, nope. CD player makes a terrible noise. There's just not logic to this thing. My techie savie hubs read the directions, the determined mother in me, also read the directions. Got no where. Big disappointment when this was the item I had searched high and low to give to my daughter for her big Christmas gift. Toys R Us and I, also and ill fated relationship.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
