      My son just turned 11 and thinks this set is JUST like the more expensive sets. The bricks fit and hold together well, and the quality is definitely there. This is one time where "generic" is not of noticeably lesser quality. His only "complaint" was that the pieces were all mixed up in different bags. The directions are very clear and are exactly like directions for more expensive sets ... showing pictures of what pieces are needed and then the illustration showing how to put them together. As for the pieces being all mixed up, it was still very clear which pieces were needed at each stage and I actually was glad to see the set take a little longer for him to put together ... these building sets are expensive entertainment! The set does have alot of small pieces though (lots of pieces that are only one or two dots/circles long). If your child is not ready for working with small pieces, you may want to wait on this set.

        Too many little bags!! My son which is 8, can do normal Legos all by himself. The bags were not numbered or had any order!!!! I had to do the station with him. Normally, with a Lego set, each little part is in a numbered bag. Not this one, you will need each of the 15(seemed like 100!)to complete the fire station. We are going to try to work on the vehicles tomorrow.Although, we had a good time doing it together, I would not recommend it, especially for a beginner(which my child has completed many Lego sets)!!!!

          I'm sure this is a great toy for the right age (5+) but based on the Toys R Us listing we didn't realize it was very small pieces. It is listed in preschool section. We have an almost 3 y.o boy who desperately wanted to open this playset on Christmas Day and we distracted him so we could take it back. 1000 pieces should have been the give away... Note that some pieces are very tiny (like one square of small Lego). It says 5+ on the box but by then it was too late for us... Hope this helps :) A couple more years for us...
