Exquisitely designed set. 42000 Grand Prix Racer

      By MrPaulo24

      from Lubbock

Comments about LEGO Technic Grand Prix Racer (42000):

Got it as a gift from myself for my birthday, very nice set. It's big and the details put onto it is astounding, Lego has built race car sets but this is the only set that got me into it particularly because of the smooth surfaces, took me a couple of hours to build it but the instructions are very helpful and with a bunch of spare parts I was able to interchange some of the small different colored parts with more appealing and matching parts. I bought this along with the Power Functions set and having some extra motors, I replaced the M-Motor in favor of the L-Motor which is basically more powerful, I love how the V-8 engine's pistons moves while the car is rolling (I kept it hand-operated), another feature that I also adore is the front and rear suspension of this set which is just like those real world racers have. When you turn the little control for the steering, the driver's steering also turns roughly 90 degrees in full steer right or left and that's a first for all the technic sets I have so far. Pro: - Its big, real big, the Unimog sets I have are already big but this one is wider and longer than them though it sits low, I think it's about 1:12 or 1:14 of a scale from the real thing. - A lot of smooth surfaces, this thing is rich on those surfaces and when completed is a perfect display piece for your study room or even your living room (minus the little kids, just kidding) - It's a V-8, something that one can expect from a race or sports car set is the application of a full blown V-8 engine and those pipes that all lead to the car's exhaust (I have to add another pair of pipes to complete the custom look of this set, when built this only has 3 pairs of those) Cons: These led me to tweak just some minor details on it - The tires which I felt are small, I replaced them with tires from set 8110 which I happen to have 2 extra pairs, gave the set a meaner look and raised the ground clearance a little bit - Not a V-10, that would have made it even longer and bigger (I just like V-10 engines, probably a future race car set might use a V-10 set-up) It's a little wobbly, up front it's not as sturdy but is about as good to hold the lower front wing. - Felt somewhat nearly complete, I just think there are sections of this car that could have had more details like the driver cockpit, the official model when finished shows an exposed section of it, good thing I have spare panels from donor sets particularly the black panels from 42010. - Power Functions not included. This is really not a rant and rave thingy, but on other full-sized sets, one can order them with Power Functions already included in it, my 9397 had one on it so does my two 8110s Anyway that's why I have my spare parts come in handy when I started building 8 days before I turn 24, that's just how excited I am right now when I built it, I really like this set I can already see myself staring at for hours and rolling it making those crazy race car sounds. This is a perfect addition to anyone's collection and nice choice to anyone wanting to start up one but be sure you have enough space to display because right now I am telling you this is a BIG and LONG set.

      Great kit

Comments about LEGO Technic Grand Prix Racer (42000):

Thoroughly enjoyed the building experience. The suspension system is superbly implemented, very authentic. My only criticism would be that the chassis could be a little stiffer... but I'm picking nits there... fantastic kit.

      A fine Technic set

      By Autochton

      from Malmö

Comments about LEGO Technic Grand Prix Racer (42000):

My wife and I got this set as our 'in common' Christmas present - a gift we both agree on that we get for us both as a common enjoyment. It served us very well in that respect - we had several nights worth of enjoyment in building it, and draw pleasure from looking at the finished construction even now, half a year later. The construction is a little finicky in the usual places - ensure the correct orientation of linear actuators, differentials, etc., and did not have much in the way of 'head scratch moments'. It's sturdy once built, and structurally close to its subject material. A definite winner.

Comments about LEGO Technic Grand Prix Racer (42000):

i got this technic set for my birthday in april 2013, it was the first big technic set i have, i built the a-model the grand prix racer shortly after i got it, and it took me about 10 hours over 3 days to build, and i am very impressed with model it looks awesome and has some cool features it's also a massive 2ft long 5*****! last week i built the b-model the race truck which i wasn't going to do because i didn't think it looked that good on the back of the box, i was wrong it has the same features at the grand prix racer (suspension, hog steering, v8 engine, opening bonnet and adjustable rear spoiler) and it looks really cool on my shelf 5*****!

      Great Model!

      By Katonlove

Comments about LEGO Technic Grand Prix Racer (42000):

I really enjoyed building this model. This was my first Technics model, and I found it to be rewarding bulding experience. The racer really looks good, with lots of detail. Lego really should number the bags, although the parts seemed to be logically packaged. I found this model easier to build than the Volkswagen bus, and I plan to keep on building. I would love to see a highly detailed motorcycle from Lego!

      Awesomeness in a box

      By Thatawesomeexpertoflego

      from palm bay

Comments about LEGO Technic Grand Prix Racer (42000):

This is actually my first Technic set! Not very challenging, but it was awesome to build! It has a plethora of detail like: independent all wheel suspension, moving pistons, opening hood and more! The play experience was fair because... well, you open the hood, move the spoiler and push the car up and down. That's it. The value for money is fair; the only problem is that I've seen sets with 1000 something pieces go for less. I woke up very early to finish this set. The size is MASSIVE. At about 2 feet long, this is longer than the longest Lego set I have. Another thing I have to say about this: SO MANY STICKERS. There is like 30 stickers in this set, and the ones on the tires don't fit that well. Overall; this set is truly a box of joy and awesomeness.

Comments about LEGO Technic Grand Prix Racer (42000):

I like this set for all the gears and mechanisms that you build inside the race-car. I finally found a set that was a bit more challenging because all the gears have to be in the right place for it to work. Overall it is a great set!
