The box states for young builders, ages 4-7. My son found this kit to be harder then other more advanced lego sets. The instructions are cards that you look at the picture.. not step by step. Bought because of monster truck theme. But disappointed.

The picture shows all these monster trucks but you can only build three. You have to tear apart existing ones to build the others! And the instructions are non existent - it basically just pictures. You can't even build all the jumps/platforms/trophy stands without tearing something else apart. My six year old son was disappointed.

I do not write reviews, but I bought this set for my almost five year old and felt a review may help other parents. My son can complete lego sets for 6 and up by himself, and has been for months now. This set was purchased solely because it was monster trucks, which he loves, not because it was for young builders. However, the young builder instructions confused him more than the normal lego instructions. My husband and I even thought the young builder instructions were harder to follow. If you have a young child ready for legos, I would suggest starting with the lego creator 3-in-1 small sets. They run about 7.00, come in plastic cases to store pieces in, and are fairly easy to construct. My son owns every one and builds them over and over again without needing any help from mom and dad. I hope this is helpful!
