We purchased this for my 5-year-old boy as he was finally letting go of his training wheels. It's a great, sturdy, good-looking bike. One reason we chose this over the other bikes the same size is because of the front & rear brakes. Because he's still new at riding without training wheels, it was important for him to be able to use his pedals to brake or to choose to use the brakes on the handlebars. Not all bikes this size have both. The tires are nice - a little heavier & slightly more rugged. It's just a great overall boys' bike. We definitely recommend it!

My son fell in love with this bike in store & saved up all his money to purchase after his birthday. We could have waited a few days to purchase it pre-assembled but decided to buy it that day and assemble at home. Can't be that hard as I consider myself good at building and following directions. First the assembly book for this bike is the same book for dozens of various bikes by the same manufator so there are no clear pictures for assembly. The instructions I found to be confusing and frustrating so after hours of trying to assemble the brakes I was burnt out. My husband tried for an hour and gave up. I watched dozens of you tube videos for assembly of brakes to better understand assembly and I still had trouble. Because the brake assembly was not as easy as expected the repeated efforts to assemble caused for several broken brake cords. I had to adjust all the pads and brakes which sounds simple but it is definitely not. Finally was able to get the brakes installed without rubbing on the tires and operable which was a huge success. But my adjusting left the brake levers (front, back) very different as far as needs to be pressed to work. Which is okay since again it is operable. For anyone thinking of purchasing this bike make sure you get the free assembly for sanity & safety.

Comments about Dynacraft Boys' 18 Inch Tony Hawk Philly Bike:

When two different boys can use this bike for a year and almost a half, I think it is completely worth it. We purchased the bike for a 4 year-old boy and it got great use until he was just beginning to get too big for it. He is now 49" tall. It could still be used for awhile longer, but his 45" brother needed to move from his 16" bike to the 18" bike. Weirdly, I like the kick stand: it keeps the kids from throwing it on the ground all the time, so the bike doesn't get as damaged. It was used for riding to the stores and at a BMX park. It is holding up great.

The bike is strong and my son loves it. Just that for his age it's little heavy. I have to removed both front and back pegs to get some weight off.

This bike is great for any 7 and 8 year old. The pegs on the front and rear of the bike are perfect for giving friends a ride. The thick wheels make it easy to ride over any type of bump and/or pavement. i also appreciate that the bike was assembled for me. We simply brought it home and our son jumped right on it.
