I bought and play this game myself. I am a 31 year old mother of two. My son is 8 years old and also enjoys going around catching bugs and fishing. The only thing is, you really should be able to read to enjoy this game. There is not a ton of reading involved but in order to buy and sell the items you catch you should have an idea what you're doing.
The gameplay is very relaxing. Sim like without the meters to keep you stressed. You just go around and do whatever it is you want. You can catch bugs, buy things, fish, do public works projects (build other things in your town, such as bridges, expansions, buildings, campsites, etc), you are the mayor. You can get new clothes, design clothes, buy shoes, change your hair, makeup and eye color in the salon that will eventually be after you progress thru the game. There is unlimited gameplay in this game. You sell things and earn money to shop or expand your house or just put it in the bank. You can street pass people and visit their houses and see how they have decorated and also purchase items that you like that they have.
If you have a friend with the same title, you can play via wifi and with friend codes and actually run around town together, chat, and share items.
This is a pick up and play game. Just make sure you save the game before finishing or everything will be lost. It does not auto save.

this game is OK but I was expecting more. You don't do what you want to do but instead you just do the things that you have to do. They made me the mayor of a town and then I had to buy a house. To get the house I had to sell millions of apples that I shook off trees and sell them to a retail store who gives you money in return which are called bells on here. After I got my house all it was was one tiny room so I have to pay my bills and loans or whatever's to Tom nook to get more rooms. I had to go to the post office and lay them bells in some online banking machine thing and I could either repay loan deposit or withdrawal. I didn't know which one to pay my loan off too so I decided to start a public working project instead to make a do not enter sign and you have to donate a really high bunch of bells to this little guy to get the sign and its so much you have to keep shaking trees and selling apples and paying him everyday. Complicated haw? That's all you mostly do and then later in the game a dance club opens to make of funner. One of my Minor problems is how mean the animals talk to me. They say stuff like "BUG OFF!!!" "Smart aleck!" "YOur so awkward" and other things like that and I don't even know why because all I do is be nice and talk to them. If I only talk to them twice in a day they get kind of mean. Plus I am they mayor!!! I reported them to my secretary and nothing changes.,,Maybe your not supposed to talk to them??? Now one of my favorite things is how I can sell stuff to the flea market and it seems like I have my own shop. I think it would be cool if you actually could have your own shop or something but with Nintendo updates do come! It's an OK game but would be cool if you could make your own buffet or store or lemonade stand or something. It's OK.

I think this game is great for kids old enough to read and all the way up to teenage years seem to really love the game. It's fun for them, it's clean (no mature content or issues with violence, etc.), I felt good about this purchase knowing it was a kid friendly format & content.

I am a big fan of the Animal Crossing game. And have bought each version that has come out for each Nintendo game console. This version does not disappoint. Not to be a spoiler but lots of fun surprises a wait you.
One wish is that the animal spoke English so children learning to read can still play and understand what the animals are saying so they don't constantly ask
mom to read it for them.
