I wrote a review on the MDR-EX55 earphones and later found out I made an error in my report. In that review I mentioned that the problematic earbuds were the MDR-EX52 but it turned out (after finding the old box in my store room) they were in fact the MDR-EX32, not the EX52.I've owned my first set of MDR-EX32 earphones for the past two years as an alternative to my more expensive MDR-EX58. I wanted ear canal style earbuds that would be comfortable wearing to sleep. The MDR-EX58 had a better overall frequency response, but due to its long form factor the buds painfully pressed against my ears when I sleep on my side. I had to force myself to sleep upright with the MDR-EX58, but with the EX32s they're great for listening to music to sleep.I'm always careful with earbuds and I'm quite sure I had never overstretched the cords. One day at Starbucks I was listening to my NW-A808 Walkman and suddenly th left ear bud went dead for no apparent reason.Thinking it was a fluke incident, I promptly replaced the earbuds with the same model. I didn't want to go through the hassle of claiming warranty. Hardly three months down the road, the replacement EX32 also developed the same problem! I don't know whether it was purely coincidental but the left ear bud also stopped functioning while listening to music! In both cases, the right earphones were OK.I cannot explain why I experienced two faulty EX32s with defective left ear buds (bad luck perhaps?). Both were purchased at different store outlets at different years, therefore I ruled out a faulty batch problem. I examined the cord end where it meets the stem of the earbud. I theorized the possibility of poor solder contacts inside the left earbuds. To cut a long story short, I held off replacing the EX32s and went back to wearing my EX85's until it was unfortunately damaged by my kitten. Now I'm a proud owner of the MDR-EX55 (and MDR-EX300) which in my opinion, are much better constructed than the EX32.Sound quality-wise, the EX32s were a lot better than Sony's lower end phones like the Sony Fontopia series. The Neodymium 9mm bass drivers delivered the lows as advertised and I have no complaints on the audio fidelity of the EX32s.My unfortunate experience with two defective EX32's left a bitter aftertaste and I'm not sure if I would recommend this particular model to my friends. Your mileage may vary though. For a few dollars more, I would vouch for the newer and better MDR-EX55s instead.Sorry Sony, I'm telling it as it is. I have tried earbuds by other manufacturers like Panasonic and nothing comes close to Sony earphones for that deep, low end frequencies. I've no problems with the other MDR models I've tried, but I won't buy the EX32s again due to the QC issues.

While the design & fit were satisfactory and comfortable, the sound quality was very poor. Used these with my Sony MP3 walkman player and had to turn the volume almost to high to be able to hear the sound. Also, I think the sound clarity was poor. I have used some of the other buds with this same player and have not had this problem with them. I would not suggest these particular ones again and instead popping for a little nicer buds.

Poor Material Quality

Comments about Sony Electronics Sony Earbuds: (Green):
The heaphones sound great! Well designed and light in my ears. However, the plastic/rubber used in the cord is of low quality, the cord separated on one side and the wire inside broke. To get this repaired, Sony wants $12.50... at this price, why not just go out and buy new ones? And why would I buy Sony again?

Disappointed beyond belief
Pro: cheap price Con: almost no bass at all, I'm not sure if I got a defective pair, but the bass quality on these are extremely poor. You get what you pay for I suppose, but I would have expected more out of a pair of sony earbuds, even if they were $9.99. In summary, very disappointed with my purchase, I would return these if I could but can't because of hygienic reasons.

Outstanding performance and value
Outstanding sound quality and overall performance for the price. Excellent value for an all around use earbud.

best earbuds ever!
i have bought countless earbuds, with no success. and i cant get the ones with the squishy (cant find a better word sorry) piece at the end, as my ears are tiny. but i stumbled across these, and they intensify the bass. plus they never fall out. i have had mine for months and they still work, even though i am hard on them. i think that these are the best earbuds to buy on the market.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I had the old model for about 2-3 years. they worked beautifully. I recently smashed one of the ear buds in my car door, and I was very upset. But I found these, the new model, and they work just as well.

MDR E10LP were much better
For some reason Sony thinks the specs for this new model (E9LP) are exactly the same as the E10LP's which sounded fantastic. At least be decent enough to admit the newer models are completely and utterly inferior to the older ones.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
New smaller model with smaller sound
I still have my pair of MDR-E10LP earbuds and they still sound fantastic. This new model however doesn't even come close to the audio quality in the E10 models. I would greatly appreciate if Sony gave accurate specifications for this new model of earbud because they gave it identical specs to those of the E10 earbuds but do not sound anywhere near the level the E10's are at. The E10's were worth $20 or more and yet were priced at a generous $10. The E9's however are worth $5 and yet are priced at $10. They are a waste of money.

These have great audio quality and are pretty comfortable. Best part: I've had these since 2008....and they still work better than any other earbuds I've had. Great value. Thank you, Sony.

best earbuds ever
from Baltimore, MD
Just wanted to say that these are the best earbuds I have ever bought. They were very inexpensive and have very good quality sound. I accidentally put mine through the washer and the dryer. When I found them after my laundry was finished I was sad and thought for sure I would have to buy a new pair; however when I plugged them in the sound was just as good as when I first bought them! I will be a Sony customer for life. Thank you!
Worst Purchase Ever
from Wichita, KS
I've had to buy 2 pairs in 2 1/2 months. Headphones are supposed to last around 6 months, and one pair of these didn't even make it 2 MONTHS before one side died. It'd be really nice if I could get the $30 that I spent on these stupid things back (AHEM). Don't waste your money on these headphones. I know I never will again.
