My daughter loves to play with these tinkertoys, but they have started to chip on the ends of the sticks as well as on some of the wheels. She does throw them on occasion or use the sticks as drum sticks, but she's not really a destructive kid...just some normal wear and tear.

Our 2 and 4 year old kids really enjoy playing with this, however in the 3 mos. we've had the toy we've had the tips break off at least 10 of the sticks and wood has chipped off a couple of the wheels. I'm guessing it won't be long before there's not enough pieces left to build with but we're not at all inclined to buy another set based on the poor quality of this one.

Keeps the kids busy for hours as well as adults. It's a product that has been around forever and it never loses it's fun appeal.

My 3 yr old daughter received the "girl" set-purples and pinks. The pieces are larger and plastic. She loved it and then my 7 yr old son decided he loved it too. There just weren't enough pieces to "share". Since my son had a gift certificate, he decided to buy his own set. They arrived and both children are reguarly using their imaginations and creating masterpieces.

I enjoyed this toy as a child but this isn't the same. The holes in the spools, couplings and pulleys must be larger. My sons enjoy creating, or using the Tinkertoy Building Manual book, to build designs. But, often they fall apart on their own, or by someone moving the "tank, truck, tractor, racer, etc." It doesn't take much before a couple of rods pop out of place, and design needs to be fixed, or it begins to collapse. The smaller rods (yellow and blue) are especially prone to falling out of place. Both my sons, my husband and myself are really disappointed and frustrated. Especially because many of their creations take time to create and assemble. We will replace this with Erector or Meccano, which will stay together.

My son (age 4) is having a make-believe battle with tinker toys while we speak. It keeps him pretending for hours. He even sneaks these into bed with him so that he can build before he sleeps.

My 5 and 7 year old boys also love these tinker toys. They make the most amazing things with them. The possibilities are endless so the game is endless also.

My Children are 6 and 7 and love these. They even get their imaginations going and create Wands from the pieces. We are reading the Harry Potter books at night so they love holding their "wands" and pretending to do spells as I read to them. This set does not limit a childs imagination.
