The Step2 Crabbie Sandbox provides hours of sandbox fun for your little one. Two molded-in claw seats offer a space for your child to sit while he or she is playing in the sand to keep from getting too sandy. The sandbox is capable of holding up to 300 lbs. of sand, which is plenty for your child to play in. A sculpted shell lid protects the sand from animals or pets and securely stays on, even during bad weather. I love this sandbox. Its says that it holds up to 300lbs of sand but that must be if it is filled to the rim because I put 160lbs of Crayola sand and it is about halfway up and the perfect amount of sand for this sandbox. I have 2 boys...a 1 year old and a 4 year old and this crabbie is perfect size for the two of them to enjoy playing in the sand together. I love the claw seats because when my oldest son feels that my little one is over crowding his area then he just sits on the claw to make even more play room for his little brother. I also want to comment about the Crayola sand. I have seen some people on other websites say that the colored sand stains clothes and skin. IT DOESNT! When a child plays in regular sand it turns clothes brown and skin looks dirty but you just wash the clothes and the body and it comes clean. Its the same with the colored sand. It may look stained because its blue or purple or whatever color you buy but as soon as you run clothes through the washer and kids take a bath they are clean again. Not stained just dirty with different colors. I would for sure recommend this crab sandbox. I love the lid feature. No water gets in! Its great! I do check the sandbox for snakes before my children use it because there are 2 small holes on each side of the crabbie. It is made this way so the sand can breathe and dry out after getting it wet. Yes you get the sand wet in order for the kids to make sandcastles. Not really wet just damp enough to be able to mold. Anyway so the sandbox is made with 2 small holes on each side of the crab where the lid meets the rim so I live somewhere with ALOT of snakes so just check everytime to make sure there are non in there.

Lid is a little on the flimsy side--I'm concerned that it won't hold up in even a light wind.
I bought two of these for my grandchildren and they love them even though we haven't added the sand yet.
I've read that if we put one cup of ground cinnamon in the box and mix it in with the sand, that it will deter bugs from getting in. I think we'll try this, especially since the lid has a small indentation (hole) space in the lid. I'm hoping rain won't get in and accumulate in the bottom of the sandbox.

    Good amount of room for kids to play, and my daughter loves that it is a red crab. The rain gets in the sand box even with the lid secured well and a rock on top. Not too big a deal though, still worth the money I spent.

      The product was a gift and easy to set up, it has been a hit with our niece who hasn't stopped playing in it! Perfect size for her to play in ( age 2). It fit nicely in the front porch area and because it has a lid mommy isn't worried about anything gwtting into the sand at night.

        We use the sandbox for sand and also for a back up kiddie pool. I have had no issues with the way that this is made. I myself have sat on the carb claws with no issue, and I am 150lbs. One thing I would add. If you have climate changes in your area, probably best to bring in the crab during winter. Also...cleaning out sand from time to time...and maybe rinsing off underneath to get bugs out. We have had ours for 2yrs...and it looks brand new.

        This sandbox has the perfect design and is great for little ones. However, within a couple of days of getting it, a 60 pound sibling sat on the "claw seat" and indented it. Now the top won't close and rain and bugs gets in. Very disappointing.

          This sandbox has been wonderful and keeps my very active son busy for hours. It's a perfect size for him and fits all his shovels and buckets. The cover is great for keeping the rain out and any unwanted bugs and animals. We have got a lot of rain this spring and we haven't experienced any leaking. We used 4 bags of sand from toysrus and it seemed to be a good amount to fill it.

              The product is wonderful but your shipper is not good. The box was torn in many areas which could have compromised the quality in the product resulting in our return of the sandbox. Deep holes were all in the box and scratched a portion of the sandbox. If we had more time, I would have taken it back and asked for a replacement from Toys R Us but, since this was a birthday gift, I didn't have any choice but to give it to her. Probably will not use the online ordering system again. I'll just use another company instead.
