When I had my Son 5 weeks early we spent 8 days in the NICU. They used these bags and the lacation consultant recommended them. I did not have any problems with leaking. The only problem was one that was my fault. I got milk on the zipper and it did not seal properly from the milk. From that point, I folded the top down past the zipper to fill. This gave a nice opening to fill the bags without difficulty. I never had any trouble with the bags leaking after freezing. I used the bags from freezer to hot water to platex drop in bottle to my baby. I never heard of anyone complaining about the plastic smell or taste. I never smelled plastic and my son alsways too the milk without difficulty. I tell all new moms about this becasue the cost is great and so is the quality. Don't pay for the big name.

I use this bag because with my first child it was a good tool especially since I am trying to store as much milk as I can and the other brands can be costly. I still had a few left over from about three years ago because my son just turned 5 and I breastfed him until he was about 2 1/2 years old. The old bags had thicker plastic and blue zippers. I noticed the color change first to the current white zippers and then I noticed the longer length and thinner plastic. So I thought there are some changes and I was observing them because I know that with some product changes it may not always be the best change.

I agree with some of the parents who were not happy about the leaking. I usually pump out between 10 to 20 ounces of milk per pumping session so I usually have to store 5 oz in a bag during pumping from one side first then the other. I noticed that one of the bags I had filled up had slipped on its side and that there was milk leaking out of it. Upon further investigation, I found that the leak was coming from the edges of the bag where the zipper was pressed to seal it. I wasnt too happy to find that there was this problem with one bag and if it happens once it could easily happen again with the type of seal that they now have (the old blue ones were soo much better).

I had to figure out a way in which I could still safely store and thaw my milk without compromising the safety and quantity of my milk. So for those of you who still are trying to economize and are willing to deal with the problem in other ways, here is what I did:

1.) find a tupperware lid that curves up when you turn it over.

2.) try to seal your bags properly and get as much air out as possible before sealing.

3.) lay out your bags (after labelling) on the lid in a way that the bag will not be completely flat with milk going up to the zipper itself...I usually make sure that the zipper portion and about 1/2 inch below it is against the curved edge of the plastic lid... this way, when the milk freezes, it will not be flush against the zipper and wont force it open ( remember: freezing liquids will cause them to expand- thats why sealed bottles and soda that are being chilled will pop and break open in a nice and messy explosion if left in the freezer too long - trust me my husband left apple cider in the freezer and I had to clean up my mom's freezer on New Year :D

* This procedure will also help in storing the bags because they will be nice and flat when frozen, saving space in your freezer

4. When the bag is frozen, I just transfer it into my storage containers in order oldest to newest milk.

5 To THAW: Put your frozen or refrigerated milk bag into another sandwich bag and seal before immersing in the warm water soak/bath that you have to do. This will keep your milk from mixing with the water if there is a leak in the seal of your bag.

I hope this helps someone else. Times are tough and if money is a consideration, I would recommend that using your common sense is a way of dealing with this product's shortcomings.

Comments about Gerber 1002312 Gerber NUK Seal N Go Breast Milk Storage Bags - 45 Count:

I haven't had any problems with them leaking, and I like that they are double sealed. However, I've noticed that what is measured as 4 oz in a bottle, becomes 6 oz when I pour it into one of these bags. I even double checked it using a measuring cup and it was off when I poured it in.

Comments about Gerber 1002312 Gerber NUK Seal N Go Breast Milk Storage Bags - 45 Count:

Don't buy those bags!! I just had to trash liters and liters of breast milk which I stored in those bags (in deep freezer) and I am so angry! The milk smells like weird plastic and I cannot give that to my baby. I froze the milk fresh and in the deep freezer, less then 3 months old but... 50 bags with 5 - 8 oz are literally down the drain!!

Comments about Gerber 1002312 Gerber NUK Seal N Go Breast Milk Storage Bags - 45 Count:

The worst products ever do not buy!! I have been freezing breast milk for over 5 months now using the Nuk freezers bag. I decided to stop breast feeding my son at 9 months, and started to use my stash; I had to throw away already over 15 bags because they had leaks. I am so upset, and I cry over the fact that I had to throw so many bags away. I also wonder how many more bags I have to throw away. Please do not buy this product if you don't have too!! Don't make the same mistake I made or else I promise you will regret it. Nuk shame on you for making such a lousy product knowing this product will be used for the most precious thing on earth.

Comments about Gerber 1002312 Gerber NUK Seal N Go Breast Milk Storage Bags - 45 Count:

I have used this brand with my other 3 children. I have exclusively breastfed all of them. I had a ton of milk in the freezer with each of them and NEVER had any leaks. I have always stored them sitting straight up. I make sure to check that they are sealed, but I have never had any problems sealing them. I always mark how much milk I am pouring into each one on the outside of the bag along with the date I pumped it. As it freezes it tends to look like more than you put in there because it expands. This way I always know exactly the amount I'm pulling out to use. I always freeze in small increments. Anywhere from 1-4 ounces. That way I can thaw exactly what my baby needs without wasting any.

I've never read the reviews on these bags. I've never had a need to, I love them. But when I saw 3 stars for the average rating I got curious. I've been using these bags for over 10 years of baby raising. I have never had to throw away even one. They do exactly what they are supposed to. Makes storing a huge stash of breast milk a lot more compact in your freezer than storaging in bottles. And with 45 bags to a box, it's a great value if you know how to use them, seal them properly and store them in the freezer standing upright as they are meant to do.

I don't know, after solely breast feeding 6 babies for 12+ months each, purchasing these bags for baby #7 seemed like a no brainer. It must be user error. That's all I can come up with. These are great bags and are definitely a staple in my stash of baby necessities.

First, learn how to seal the bags. One needs to start the process from one side to the other or vice versa. Must have some pressure behind your seal.

Second, don't bang them around the freezer. You will puncture tiny holes in the frozen bag if it hits a hard place, like a corner of another bag.

Third, store your bags upright and aligned. Buy those bins specifically made for these bags.

I don't have time to go into more details as I have twins 6-month olds who need to be tended to. My wife tried to make these work for our first and now our twins but couldn't seem to close these like I could with my strength. But I taught her!

If they leak it's because of your error. Remember that.

I am a mom of three and am breast feeding exclusively. We picked up these bags so we could involve our other two children in feeding, and to give me an occasional break, as I am having mastitis issues. It is hard for me to pump, as I am producing just enough milk for Itty-bitty, so everything 'extra' is a precious commodity. SO to say the least, it is EXTREMELY frustrating when every other bag develops a leak, or you notice has a hole in it before you thaw it and you have to toss it. I am throwing these out, not even worth giving away and am going to try the Avent containers. They may take up more room, but I have yet to have an Avent product fail me....

You will not be saving money with thes bags. I'm nearing the end of my freezer supply and these are the bags that remain. I mostly used Lansinoh. I have thrown away 6 nearly thawed bags in the last 24 hours. I threw maybe 1 or 2 Lansinoh bags in the entire 8 months that we've used them.

They may save you a few bucks initially, but in the long run you'll lose a ton of breastmilk. Which is like liquid gold. Your body works hard to make it, don't let a silly purchase like this be the reason you lose it all.
