It is drudgery to play. There is constant flipping of the playbook on every play just to find the result. Some of the dice columns are missing numbers. The pitcher grades become boring after a few games as so many of the pitchers are the same with just a different name. You only get 2 teams of 1953 players in the game and we discovered that we must spend another $40.00 or more just to get the modern season teams, this was an unpleasant surprise. Toys R US made the exchange and we greatly appreciated this. Our son got the Stratomatic Baseball Express and this was much better and more exciting for him.

I've been playing APBA Baseball for just over 3 decades now and every time I break it out I can still smell the freshly cut grass, hear the roar of the crowd and feel the anticipation of every pitch. The statistical accuracy of the player's performances is phenominal. While playing APBA Baseball over the years, I've learned more about the game of baseball, its players, its rules and its statistics system than I ever dreamed I'd know.
The game is played with dice and a set of player cards for each team. Each player has his own ratings each of which are totaled up and compared with the ratings of the opposing team. A dice roll is made and the batter's card is checked for a roll result. That result is used to reference the play charts according to the situation (bases empty, runners on 1st and 3rd, etc. It takes the Pitcher's rating into account and the fielding ratings of the defensive unit on the field. Will you have your batter bunt the runner on first to second or is your runner fast enough to steal 2nd and set up the go-ahead score? Will you hit and run or just swing away normally? Will the opposing pitcher bring the heat to the plate or will he pitch-out or even intentially walk the batter? Is it time to pinch hit? Perhaps your pitching ace is tiring, it may be time to bring in your closer. You're the Manager, you make all the decisions. Smooth, fluid gameplay and amazing historical accuracy combined with great head-to-head OR single player action, make this game a sure fire winner... I would highly reccommend this game to ANY baseball or historical statistic enthusiast.
