With the Melt 'N Mold Factory from Crayola, your child can transform Crayola crayons into their own custom swirled crayons and molded toys in just a few simple steps. This kit is safe and easy to use, and includes everything your child needs to melt, mold, and create.
Melt 'N Mold Factory, 24 full-size Crayola Crayons, two molds, and mold holder.
The Melt 'N Mold Factory makes it easy for kids six and up to create their own crayons. Children can choose their own special combination of crayon bits. You can encourage kids to choose high-contrast colors for the most striking results. Their custom combination goes into the melting tray--just turn the dial toward the on/off switch to make the pieces begin to melt and blend. When the wax is ready, kids can safely pour the melted crayons into a mold of their choice.
The factory comes with two molds your child can use over and over again. One mold makes new crayons in the traditional shape, while the other creates two ring-shaped crayons at the same time. Each mold snaps easily and securely into the holder and then attaches directly to the factory. For added convenience, the Melt 'N Mold Factory is powered by any AC outlet, so there are no batteries to replace.
To create additional fun shapes, Melt 'N Mold Factory works with any of the Crayola expansion packs (sold separately).
Crayola art supplies and activities help children express, create, and connect through colorful play.

My six year old son loves it. We bought the race car expansion pack for it and he loves to make the race cars. It works well if you follow the directions. The clean up is a little hard though. It isn't messy per say, but trying to get the residual crayon wax out of the melting tray is not as easy as just "wiping it clean" as the directions suggest. The smaller you make the pieces the better it melts. It suggests 3-4 pieces per crayon, but we were able to get 1 cycle when we got 5 pieces out of 1 crayon. People in the reviews are probably just not making the pieces small enough to melt in time. Also, make sure to completely fill a single layer of the tray. At first we did the 3 crayons worth of wax method that the directions suggested, but this wasn't enough wax to completely fill the molds. Since there wasn't enough wax the flow was thin and a lot of the wax dried during travel before it even made it into the shape part of the mold. After the first attempt we made sure to use smaller pieces and completely cover the tray (in a single layer) and it has worked great ever since. The real downside is how long it takes. It takes about 15 minutes for the wax to melt enough to do the pouring, and then about another 20 minutes to set up. My son just plays a game or eats a snack while watching the timer light. He doesn't seem to mind that it takes awhile. The best thing is that the plastic lid stays locked until the unit is done and cool enough to touch safely, so I don't have to worry about him getting burned. Also, the pouring all happens with a lever and stays under the plastic lid, so there is no contact with the hot wax or spilling of the wax.

This product was purchased as an early Christmas present for my 7 1/2 year old granddaughter. She was so excited to open and use it today, but was very disappointed after trying it out for the first time. For starters, she had to wait through 3-4 cycles with the melting tray before the crayons were melted enough to pour into the molds. This process took at least an hour and a half to complete. After pouring melted crayons into the rather skimpy molds, there was a lot of wax/crayon residue to clean on the melting tray and molds before she could use them again. We found out that if you don't completely clean the metal melting tray after the first batch the next batch will not melt at all. The wax residue is also very hard to clean off of the tray and molds. She was also unhappy because there's a picture of a car on the box, but there was no car mold inside. Sadly, I found out that the car mold my granddaughter wanted comes with an expansion pack that you have to buy separately. Because there is a rather large picture of the car on the original box, we felt we had been tricked into thinking it was inside. Anyway, I gave this product 2 stars instead of 1 star because I feel the idea of creating swirly, multi-colored crayons is great, but the quality is poor. If you're like me and want to get your money's worth, I would not recommend purchasing this toy.

my 10 year old son has had this on his bucket list of things to get for a while. makes good use of old broken and "worn out" crayons. being Crayola I wouldn't have expected it to not me great. only draw back is it only makes 4 funky color crayons at a time.

Rainbow crayons ;)

My daughter thinks this is the coolest thing...mostly because she's really into rainbows and lots of colors these days. The crayon maker is pretty simple to use. It was a great purchase for our family
I would buy this again

My girls got this for their 7th birthday... We had a line of kids wanting to try it out.. You put the crayon pieces in. Turn the dial and wait... And wait... When wax is melted, light goes out and you pour the melted wax into the form. The lid won't open until it is ready so don't try to open it. Also give it a few more minutes to set before you break apart the crayons. We out iurs in fridge for a minute or so so cool off. The crayons are fun o make and to use!
Bought this for my 10 year old granddaughter. She is having lots of fun, melting her old crayons, mixing colors and creating her own unique crayons. The only drawback is the price, which is a little high. Other than that, it's a great product.

My eight year old daughter wanted this for her birthday. And when she got it she coulndnt wait to operate. The step by step instructions are accurate. And the crayons and ring molds which this unit comes with are great. The only bad thing about this product is they don't supply a crayon wrapper to put over the crayon when it's done, and after the crayon is melted their isn't a tool proved to scrape off left over melted crayon from the melting tray.

My son received this for Christmas and has been playing with it ever since. He's 4 and he's learned how to do everything all by himself (of course, we don't allow him to do it unless there is supervision). I don't know why some have said that it takes an hour for the crayons to melt - maybe they got a defective one? It takes about 10 minutes to melt, and yes, you have to watch for the light to go off (which indicates when to pour the wax) or else they will dry. But if you follow the directions, you will have some pretty cool looking crayons. I hope they come out with some additional expansion packs, because my son is having a blast making cars (which do not come with the maker!), rings, and new crayons.
It melts Crayons!!!
from Miami, FL
It does what is expected of it. Albeit, very slowly and messily it makes the molds. The melting pan gets coated after several uses and you can either clean which is difficult or leave and get brown residue on all your new molds.
Waste of money!
from Boston, MA
This product was a waste of money. Followed the directions. It took over an hour for the crayons to melt. By the time they melted, they dried before we were able to pour into the mold. Basically useless now. I would not recommend. Way too expensive for what it is.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
