This crane is the biggest with a record breaking 2,606 pieces. Many say this Lego set has the most pieces recorded on a Technic Lego set. When you hold the giant box, trust me its heavy. You can almost carry anything with this monster crane. So have fun. Oh one more thing, you need a lot of patience, it took me 3 and a half hours just to complete the main truck.

I'm the odd one out here, seems everyone here is happy with 42009. Really can't say much more thats all ready been said about 42009. In saying that my experience with 42009 has been somewhat disappointing. Those annoying outriggers, could never quite figure them; I was left unhappy with it. Over looked build, no mistakes that I did, just mistake by that one Lego designer who made 42009. Those out riggers are just flawed , was that unhappy sold it to someone else to deal with the puzzle. Wile I enjoyed the build and like the look of it, I could not keep an model with a design flaw, sad to see it go happy that I no longer have to look at a paper weight. Shame that the outriggers spoil the whole model.

    wonderful investment

    By nightrunner

Comments about LEGO Technic Mobile Crane MK II (42009):

the gear box on the super structure was amazing, blew my mind that so much lego could be packed into one machine. the gear train for the lowering/ raising of the outriggers, could be designed different, i think there are to many 8 tooth gears trying to mesh and work together, and that really bogs the motor down. but where the power is transferred down from the super structure into the truck body, remove the tan double bevel gear, and the one sided tan bevel gear, and a L motor will fit nicely in that space. having 2 L motors would work wonders, but i only have one for the time. all in all the crane is amazing, its a conversation piece when its on the living room table.

    Satisfying build!

    By adultkid

Comments about LEGO Technic Mobile Crane MK II (42009):

Challenging and time consuming, but worth every minute! I built this over the course of several days, and aside from the occasional frustrating mistake (requiring small rebuilds), total build time was somewhere around 16 hours. There are 6 instruction booklets - the first 3 make up the vehicle portion of the build, while numbers 4-6 are the operating seat (power functions) and the crane. I would say the first three books make up 60% of the build time required so I slowed down a bit after finishing that section. Anyways I had a great time building. Lots of pieces, gears, and moving parts. Requires some attention to detail but that's what I was hoping for when purchased. Well worth the price for the number of pieces and the time needed to complete building. Hoping for more large and challenging Technic sets!

Pushing LEGO pieces to the limits

Comments about LEGO Technic Mobile Crane MK II (42009):

This set is very fun and challenging to build. The final model seems to be pushing LEGO pieces to their limits - the whole model is so weighty that you feel that some pieces will fall apart. It would be great if they included remote commands like in most flagship sets, but it's still very good. Loved the amount of pieces. 2600+

The longest build ever and so much fun!

Comments about LEGO Technic Mobile Crane MK II (42009):

I just purchased this set last week and received it a few days ago. As soon as it came, i got to work building it. It took just over 7 Hours to build! Made some mistakes along the way which required me to take some of it apart to fix but luckily, it is designed in such a way that it allows for easy disassembly. There are so many pieces included and great techniques used to build this model. Not only does it work but it can also allow you to expand the build. I have already made some modifications to the crane and am now looking at motorizing some of the elements that were not originally motorized. I highly recommend this set! Get it before its gone again!

          Best Flagship Model to Date!!!

Comments about LEGO Technic Mobile Crane MK II (42009):

This thing is a beast and then some. given the usual cost of the flagship models this is really good value for money. It's not only big but its packed full of technically advanced functions that really embodies what the Technic line is all about. One thing I would have liked to have seen was an additional motor to serve the truck body, out riggers etc instead of the huge, inefficient drive trains that had to be used to do it all with just one motor. it would have added minimally to the cost of the set and made it function far better. The build is really fun with lots of different techniques and far less repetitive than some of the larger models can be. Looking forward to integrating the Remote controls of the Volvo model into this beast.

Excellent Value - Keeper for My Lego Collection

          By DoghouseBassPlayer

          from Hanford

Comments about LEGO Technic Mobile Crane MK II (42009):

Upon opening the large fold-out graphic carton, I discovered six books of instructions, and twenty-four bags of parts. The bags were numbered and the books were too. Each of the three large components of the crane were built from the corresponding numbered bags, thus helping to avoid from having 2606 Lego pieces out on the table at one time. The instructions were well shown, the circled items gave a focused view of the changes being made. I found it interesting as the instructions gave directions to assemble some features to true up the axels, and then gave directions to un-assemble them. The features of my crane work exactly as they were shown on the website! I was very excited when all of the parts worked after being built. The outriggers, the large 30" boom, and all of the moving parts were fun to build and fascinating to watch them in action. Some changes I would like to make are: 1. Working headlights 2. Seats that have studs to help hold the Lego figures in place 3. Remote control to operate the rolling of the vehicle and steering Excellent value, a keeper for my collection! My next project will be the Container Stacker and Truck using the parts from this crane and the instructions available online. Thank you Lego Company for designing this splendid mobile crane. My most challenging Lego project to date. I look forward to seeing your new creations.

Most complex Lego kit and also most fun to build

          By Peabody

          from Chicago

Comments about LEGO Technic Mobile Crane MK II (42009):

We have a lot of Lego kits in our family, including several of the modular buildings, the Death Star and Super Star Destroyer. Those are all great kits, but none of them are as complex and make you think like the Mobile Crane Mk II does. I spent about 20 hours or so constructing the model, 2 to 3 hrs of which were spent correcting mistakes. I cannot stress it enough to those of you considering buying this: take the time to read and fully understand each step of the build before actually putting pieces together. Once certain parts are together, you're going to have a lot of difficulty getting into the various components to fix your mistakes. I had a lot of fun building this, and even troubleshooting the errors was fun; it made you look at the build like a mechanic, having to trace back gears and shafts to find out what's going wrong. The biggest issues I had involved using the wrong color beams on one of the outriggers (Lego, you've got to find a better way to distinguish between dark gray and black in your manuals), and the tan gears on the stabilizer jacks themselves were backwards on the right side. The clutch system that allows you to control four separate functions with one lever is ingenious, and the steering function was designed by someone who definitely knows what they're doing. Everything operates as it should. All in all this might be the most enjoyable build of all the Lego products our family has owned, but I would recommend the MkII to those who already have some experience putting together geared assemblies in other Lego models before tackling this behemoth.
