I received this diaper pail at one of my showers and honestly did not even pull it out to use until my daughter's diapers began to smell (when solid foods were introduced). It lasted one day and then it was sent to the garage where it still sits. One smelly diaper in there with a brand new scent disc and her whole room smelled. It was terrible. I would rather throw it in our kitchen trash can where the trash is taken out daily then stink up her room. The only advantages of this product is the price and that it does not require certain bags. However, once your childs diapers get "smelly" this pail will NOT work. Please think twice before buying this, even with the advantages. I am not looking at a different diaper pail or sticking to my current arrangement, just throwing the dipers in our kitchen trash can.

The trash can saves on trash bags, but makes a mess! Not only does it make a mess, it stinks! Literally! The smell is awful and those odor disks it comes with do not work!!! Do not buy this!

Bought this pail to replace a diaper genie- i liked the idea of using plan garbage bags. From day one this pail did not contain odor. Even changing the bag daily didn't make a difference. Went back to Diaper Genie. Stay away.

I opted for the cheapest diaper pail and it turned out great. I have many friends who received more expensive diaper pails and were pretty happy with them as well. This did start to stink after a year and so did my friends' pails -- it was our primary diaper pail and made it through the solid foods stage. I used scented (cheap) garbage bags and threw a car deodorizer in the pocket. I had to replaced the pail after a year because it broke when we moved. I'm coming up on year 2 with this one and will buy it again when the next baby comes :)

The lid does pop a little bit if you just hit the button. I hit the button with my thumb and rested my other fingers on the lid and could make it open silently.

My grandmother bought us this for our first baby and it was fine for about a month. The refill for the odor thing was replaced but it still smelled. I started adding powders to the bottom to help with the smell but it just ended up wasting trash bags cause of taking it out at the end of every day. Finally we just went back to using bags for the diapers and no more smell.

This was a gift for our baby shower. We loved it for the first few months. It was convenient because it used regular trash bags and it didn't smell too badly. However, after our baby started eating food at four months, we noticed how much more her poop smelled and this pail did not contain that smell. We could not find any replacements for the deoderizer thing so we started putting whatever would fit in there to try to help with the smell. Bottom line is now we are looking for a new pail that does a better job containing the smell.

i got this diaper pail with my first child. it is easy to use and i like not having to buy refill bags. i just use cheap trash bags or even grocery store bags. after the 2nd child, the odors got a little strong, but i found putting a piece of charcoal in the bottom solved all the odiferous problems!! i wil be using this diaper pail again with #3!

I just brought this diaper pail and so far everything seems fine except I don't like when you press the button to open the center of the pail, it pops open (springs) loudly. The odor cartridge seems worthless, although I don't think its supposed to smell nice so much as nuetralize odors. I plan on buying the arm and hammer baking soda stick on next time I'm at [...] for now I just throw a very small amount of baking soda in the pail along with a few drops of lavendar essential oil (got at GNC) on a baby washcloth. The pail actually smells nice when you open it and today will be day 3 or 4 (?) of cloth diapers in it. Although I might be a bit concerned whether the pail is big enough when baby #2 comes in a few months. But again, this is pee and poop and I wouldn't want it festering longer than 2 -3 -4 days anyway! This morning, i noticed the pail is already full, which is fine for me, since it is my helpful reminder for my VERY forgetful self it is cloth diaper wash day. I have been filling the pail with thick prefolds and diaper covers, diaper liners and doublers. I just throw pee diapers in there as is, however poop I plop or scrape into toilet first, then rinse in laundry sink before throwing into the pail. My 1 1/2 yr old daughter has some pretty smelly poop and even if she didn't I couldn't see just leaving poop in the diaper pail to ripen...eww! So far she has been very interested in the fact that her poop goes into the toilet and I think this is good to show her for purposes of beginning of potty training. The only reason I gave 3 stars is the loud sound it makes when you open and the fact I have only used it for a few days so far. In a few more months I will write a review when baby #2 gets here. Also this pail is now sold with a light tan cover. This is far better looking than the blue lid one my babysitter has and matches whichever room I might decide to move it to in future : ) I also plan on wiping it out with antibacterial wipe and spraying with lysol every cloth diaper wash day so hopefully that will contain the smell as well as disinfect.

I also received this from my registry. I've been using it for 2 months now and it's been great! We use standard 13-gallon kitchen bags (we buy scented ones that are available at most stores, but I don't think it would matter as all the smells stay inside the pail). We only empty it when it is full.
