We bought this for our first child merely because of the low price and the convenience of being able to use regular trash bags, and not special refills.

We loved it for the first 4 months until my son started solids. I know that nothing, no matter how fancy or expensive, will ever fully trap in diaper odor, but... this is just not working for us. At all.

His nursery constantly smells like poop, and because he's at day care most of the day, he only has 1 muddy diaper at home every other day or so. But, that one diaper is enough to stink up his entire room.

We use Arm & Hammer baking soda inserts and still... nothing. We change the bag all the time... nothing. We spray the pail with Lysol.... nothing. Nothing works. It's just nothing more than a trash can, and I would never stick a diaper full of poop in a trash can in my house.

Also, the button to open the pail often sticks, and we either have to pound on it or pry the lid open. Not so convenient when you have a diaper in one hand, and your other hand holding onto a squirmy baby on the changing table.

So, I'm off to Babies R' Us tomorrow, 9 months later, to buy the expensive diaper pail I really was hoping to not need.

I'm just praying it works.

I'm about to replace my first one, which lasted more than 4 yrs. My second one is 2+ yrs. and going strong. I started w/ disposable dipes, then moved to cloth, and find that the pails work well w/ either type. The center pop-up is big enough for a cloth dipe, and I can use any kind of cloth pail-liner I want. Even w/ a mesh liner full of dirty dipes, the smell doesn't stay in the plastic. If I want to disinfect it, I use a little bleach water and it's as good as new. I remember that it didn't contain the smell from disposables if there was a nasty dipe in there. That's because the dipe wasn't completely encased in plastic. I'd either put the dipe in a plastic store bag, or bring it out right away. W/ cloth it contains very well. If I want to get a little air circulation, I just leave the pop-up open. If I close the center, it contains beautifully.

I love how it is so easy to use, press a button and it opens. The smell can get to you at times, but change out the bag and the smell is gone. I love how you can use a regular trash can liner and therefore put more in it. This thing is great for the price! Getting another one for 2nd's nursery.

I can't do it anymore. I have tried changing out the bags 2 to 3 times a week, cleaning the inside of it with every change. It stinks. You would have about as much odor protection as a regular lid trash can, which is what this is. I used it for one year and now it is becoming a garage trash can. I finally sprang for the diaper genie elite 2 and I am amazed! The extra money is well worth it and I'm sad I didn't switch sooner.

I like that you can use any sort of bag, and that it is simple to use. Some of the smell isnt contained all the time, but if you change the bag daily you wont have a problem!

I have both the Diaper Genie and the Diaper Champ. I used the Diaper Genie before I switched to cloth diapers and was not impressed with it, mostly because of the sausage tube of poop. When I switched to cloth, I got this pail. I love it! I love that I can use a reusable pail liner and there is no stink. When my second child came, we got another one for her room. It works so well.

TRIED TO GIVE 5 STARS BUT COMPUTER WOULD NOT LET ME. Perfect size. Smaller wouldn't be practical, larger would make a full bag too heavy to remove easily. The one-touch push button top makes it a breeze to deposit diapers with one hand when your other arm is otherwise occupied holding baby. The deodorizer cup is brilliant and designed to hold the little disk supplied with the can or a little baking soda sachet (which works well).I wish had found this years ago to use with my first child. Soooo much less expensive than those diaper genie type cans and uses typical 8-gallon trash bags. Great price. Super value. Its perfect for the task!!!

First I love the price, why pay more and then have to buy the specific refills on top of that? We use the scented 13 gallon trashbags and so far no smells have escaped. We even forgot to empty the bin and diapers kept adding up for 2 weeks and I didn't smell a thing! The deoderizer disc doesn't have a smell to it and like others have said, it rattles around when you pop open the lid for disposal so we threw it away, I suppose you can leave it in there and just tape it in place but since we didn't notice a scent we figured it was trashable. Love the bin, glad we didn't opt for one of the expensive ones-this works just fine for 1/2 the initial cost and a lot less of the monthly refill cost!

I used the "Diaper Genie Elite" for the 1st yr of my daughters life. I hated it! The lid would get stuck and jam up all the time! The refill bags were so expensive! I decided to throw it out and replace it with this pail. My husband and I couldn't be happier with this. First of all, I love how you can use regular garbage bags. I use the odor control one's and they work great. I also use disposable diaper sacks for the stinky poo diapers. They're very inexpensive, a couple of bucks for a ton of bags, and it helps control the odors. I spray down the pail with Lysol after I switch out the bags. It doesn't get stuck, and it's cheap! I think it's alot more sanitary than the "Diaper Genie" was. Works for me!

Having twins I didn't want a diaper pail with expensive refills. This one is great since it uses regular trash bags. It's okay at containing odors. I can't find the deoderizing discs but have found that a regular gel air freshener put in the top compartment works just as well. For the price, I have been very pleased.
