I am just speechless about this set, even looking at it makes me feel so happy that I got it. The tower is mostly black, with cool architecture and minifigures. It has six floors, all which look amazing, and are all different and containing features. So first off, I will describe the floors. Dungeon- This spooky place below the actual tower, is the widest room in the tower, it's floor is littered by bones which are together by red blocks (representing dried up blood). There are two columns in the room, they are pitch black. On one of the walls hangs a chain with a metal ball at the end, which you can stick onto one of the prisoner minifigs. On the wall at the end are three stickers, one is a small door with a lock, another is a cell with glowing eyes inside and LEGO hands holding on it and the middle one has three wargs peeking out of the gloom. This place can also be used as the warg pit. 5/5 Entrance Floor- Here is located the door outside. There are two sticker banners with the white hand of Saruman, and a statue with a grey microfigure. The light here is caused by a small lantern that hangs from the ceiling, it is also used to power the palantir in the throne room. There is a trapdoor in the centre of the room here, which leads to the dungeon, 4/5 Throne Room- Much like the Wizard Battle set, this room contains a throne, a palantir stand with an orb, two lanterns (the same ones as in the Wizard Battle) two bookshelves with three potions and a piece of paper with a cauldron on it. There is a balcony leading outside, where Saruman can stand to aggrevate his troops. 5/5 Alchemy Room- This is the tallest room, but one of the most crampt. There is a cauldron here fool of ingots, and a Helm's Deep bomb, there are some potions here, one of which is exclusive. The windows are really big, and are given an Orthanc-style look. 5/5 The Library- This is a very cozy room, unlike the other ones, it is lit by torches, and have a lot of books, pictures and accesories around the place. There is a folding staircase that goes to the last room. 5/5 The Attic- Made very nicely and finely detailed, this rooms contains a set of Uruk-Hai armor, the two keys of the Great Towers, and the staffs of the other three wizards. You can get down from it by using a step ladder. 4/5 The Top- This place is a round floor, surrounded by four giant pillars. You can imprison Gandalf here and rescue him with the Giant Eagle. 4/5 The Architecture- The set measures 73 cm tall and 21 cm wide. It has a creepy looking hue to it, with spikes and curves, this is certainly one of the main reasons why you should buy this set. 5/5 Tree-Beard!- This guy is awesome, he is stands up to the balcony in the throne room, and it is possible for him to grab Saruman from it. His body is mostly brown, but there are some leaves(both green and turquoise) on him, and a very cute mushroom on his leg. One of his arms can be moved by a turnstile at the back of his body, and another can be positioned by movable blocks. He has a beard made out of vines, and on the top of his head is a smaller tree. It is possible to place up to 21 minifigures on him, and possibly more of you try hard. 4/5 The Great Eagle- This eagle is the same as in the Black Gate, he has a really big wingspan, and you can place somebody (preferably without a cape as it can get wrinkled) on him. 3/5 Saruman the Wise/White- Saruman is the same as the one in Wizard Battle, but he has a cloak instead of legs, and legs do conveniently come with it. He has a staff to. 5/5 Gandalf the Grey- This one is like all the other ones, except he does not have a hat, but a hair piece. He has a cape. 4/5 Grima Wormtongue- He is an exclusive figure to this set, he comes with a black cape, a double face, one showing him normal and the other one where he is scared. He has a black hairpiece that really look's oily, and pale skin. 5/5 The Uruk-Hai Soldier- This Uruk-hai is the same one as in all the other's, yet he has some armour with the white hand, unlike the ones that just have regular ones. He is fully suited to the max. 5/5 (I love all of the Uruk-Hai, but only in the LEGO ones) The Orc Pitmaster- The guy in charge of the wargs in the pits. He is like all the regular Mordor Orcs, and he has two weapons, one being a one-sided axe, and the other a grapple hook thing, which can be used to topple Tree-beard and too swing around the Orthanc (Spider-Orc!). 4/5 Other Comments- I suggest purchasing the Orc Forge, but it is retiring soon, so get it fast! I also reccomend either the Uruk-Hai Army or Helm's Deep so that Saruman can send the army somewhere. OVERALL- 5/5 Thank You For Reading My Review- ~~~~SuperDoogyAway!

Let me start off by saying that I do like the detail on the set but I like the set in theory more than the actual tower its self. The first mistake on the set is that it only has only has a little bit of minifigures and they are not that great I mean if lego is gonna release a 200 dollar exclusive they should at least have more minifigures and I would have been fine with the amount if they were more special or exclusive. The second mistake is the ent the arm feature is cool but poorly designed so if you want to play with it you have to be very careful because if it swings to hard the arm falls off, the other problem with the ent is that it is very flimsy and little pieces fall off all the time so it is more of a display piece than an actual "toy". Then we have the actual tower that does have some cool furniture pieces but not enough and there's not that many play features and the tower also has limited room and cramped spaces. The other problem with the tower is that the black lego pieces smudge a ton and if you get fingerprints on it the tower looks hideous. The final thing is the top is built poorly and doesn't look like a tower part but a couple of spikes. So all in all the set is an overpriced ugly low minifig count piece of junk an other thing to note is that the tower is flimsy so it works more as a model than an actual play set.

Comments about LEGO Lord of the Rings The tower of Orthanc (10237):

I was given this by my kids for my birthday. We put it together as a family. It was fun to put together and the kids love playing with it. It's really tall and looks great. I was constantly impressed by the detail when putting it together.

Great iconic build

Comments about LEGO Lord of the Rings The tower of Orthanc (10237):

What a fun build! This is a very nice height and looks great with the ent that comes with it. I like the various levels and the great amount of detail then went into each room. My only critique is I wish the exterior of the tower went the full 360 instead of just 180. It would be cool if this split in half to reveal the interior. A shame this was the only really large set for these movies. I'm not into tiny play sets, I prefer bigger sets that look good on display. I went over to Weta for the parchment map of Middle Earth which is a nice accent to the tower. My set was missing a curved support piece and a few tile pieces but Lego sent the parts within two weeks so I'm very satisfied with that.

Comments about LEGO Lord of the Rings The tower of Orthanc (10237):

Bought this set just before getting discontinued. Wasn't aware of this at the time, lucky for me though as it price rocketted a few days later. We're Lord of the Ring fans and we bought this set to put it on display. Its still brandnew and sealed, just to see what it will do (price wise) and maybe build it in a year or so. Im not sure it will surpass the Town Hall, but if it does i might just try and sell it over time.

Isengard Unleashed

Comments about LEGO Lord of the Rings The tower of Orthanc (10237):

I suppose the 100 other reviewers have said everything there is to be said about the Lego set number 10237 a.k.a. The Tower of Orthanc, but I seem to feel the need to be one in a crowd. I purchased this set from shop.lego.com some time this spring (2015) and managed to "save" the set for some months before building it as it was the last one in my LotR/Hobbit Lego collection. Boy, did I enjoy building the tower! The set has so many play features, knick-knacks and imaginative uses of bricks that I was almost knocked off my shoes. And the look of the set! What a combination of somberness and quiet menace, a simply majestic building. In my opinion, no collection of LotR Legos will be even close to adequate without this set. The palantir / light brick / candle holder assembly is definitely one of my favorites, but I also like the purple Erlenmeyer flask, the three wizard staffs and the four bookcases. The barred windows of the alchemy room are a purely awesome way to use the 6 studs long bars / sticks and exploit the fact that the 1x3x2 bricks are hollow. Here are some thoughts that I had while building this awesome set: A big thanks for the reviewer that mentioned fingerprints. I wore gloves throughout the build, and now my Tower of Orthanc is fingerprint free (well, almost, since I can't get enough of the tower and fiddle with it all the time). When I started the build I was so eager to get started that I didn't go through all the bags of the set. So I wound up thinking I was missing some pieces until I threw a small hissy fit and noticed there were two number three bags and also two number five bags. When experimenting with the orc-throwing function of the ent figure I noticed that the ent is a bit wide-in-the-hip, so one has to position his arm carefully in the right place to be able to use this function. The minifigures are great (especially Grima Wormtongue), except there could be a few more in a set this size. I also noticed Gandalf's cape gets very badly wrinkled by his hair. The front door is perhaps a bit narrow, as are the front steps (they definitely looked wider in the movie) and, in my opinion, a prison door is sorely needed for the dungeon. The ball-and-chain combination looks very nice indeed. There are no flames for the two torches in the alchemy room (perhaps a wise precaution since Saruman is experimenting with explosives). The otherwise very clever and functional folding ladder blocks the top room or the room below, and the orc shield in the room comes off a bit too easily because the clip is too wide for the handle of the shield. Funnily, the throne and the lamps are almost an exact replica of the set 79005 'The Wizard Battle', I think only one piece at the back of the throne is different. All in all, the build includes quite a lot of repetition but that's to be expected from a mainly symmetrical building. The 19 stickers of this set were particularly troublesome, especially those in the dungeon. The dungeon stickers have to be placed on the recessed side of a wall element, which proved to be an almost impossible task for my fingers. I also had some additional sticker problems, because the stickers in my particular set were already peeling off the sticker sheet when I opened the box, and when I used them they now peel off the bricks, too. However, when I notified the Lego Customer Services of this problem of mine, they sent me a new sticker sheet immediately, so a big chunky thank you for the people working there, too. The new sticker sheet is perfect! I think this set might surpass even the grandeur of Town Hall (10224) and Grand Emporium (10211) put together. I simply love my Tower of Orthanc and I'm glad I bought it before it is discontinued. This set is a definite Lego classic, and I recommend combining it with the Orc Forge (9476). The design team has totally proven their worth with this set.

Well-designed, clever features

By Simplesailor

Comments about LEGO Lord of the Rings The tower of Orthanc (10237):

A nice set, well thought-out and very secure. The deck-to-deck accesses are clever and vary from floor to floor, nothing repetitive; and you can't build without being careful - there are some nuances! I very much liked the way the small parts are mostly all secured, rather than being left loose on tables or floors, just ready to fall off if somebody slams a door! For a bit of variety, try turning the palantir ball upside down to change the direction of the light. I think it actually looks better than the other way up when the cellar trapdoor is open!

Masterpiece

Comments about LEGO Lord of the Rings The tower of Orthanc (10237):

This set is a *must* for any LEGO enthusiast and a no brainer for a Lord of the Rings/Hobbit collector. This LEGO set is hands down top 5, maybe 3. This is one set that you will want to display proudly. Well done with use of the red light for the Palantir (crystal ball). Further kudos to the "Treebeard" set -- add a minifigure or two and this could easily stand-alone as a separate set. Since the majority of the pieces were black, this was the first time I didn't open all the bags at once -- which did make the building process more enjoyable. One suggestion; for a 200 dollar set, a new exclusive map tile or two rather than stickers would have gone a long way. Well done LEGO designers and builders!
