This is a great first Mr. Potato Head. If the child loves this one, add more parts and taters to the collection! The only drawback I see is the parts are a little hard to push in/pull out for really little kids. Plus, the flimsy hat is hard to attach. However, they get the hang of it eventually.

My girls had played with this at church and loved it, but the church had a large collection of potato bodies and potato "parts." This set doesn't come with enough pieces to play with much. It's more of a starter set and I'm not sure I want to invest more in something that may not be played with much. The thing that really irritates me is the "door" on Mr. P's back. It comes off all the time and it's difficult for an adult to get back on, much less a toddler. Also, some of the pieces are either too easy or too difficult to get in and out of the holes. I seem to remember a satisfying snap (My older brother received one for Christmas the first year they were introduced.) that is totally lacking here. On a positive note, the kids do get a kick out of putting parts where they would not normally go. A 2-year-old (and mommy) thinks an ear (or arm) coming out of the top of Mr. P's head for example is pretty funny.

Mr. Potato Head is a great classic toy. It teaches pre-schoolers many things through playing with him. However, my 22 month old finds it difficult to get the pieces off. They are really tight and she does get frustrated. Also, the back storage door always falls off.

This is a classic toy that belongs in every toddler's toy box. I have been using it for years as a speech therapist and now play with it with my children. Great for teaching body parts and location words (in, on, under, next to etc.). Add a Mrs. Potato head and Mr. Potato Head has someone to play with! I give it as a gift to most toddlers and it's always a hit.
