The lactation consultant in the hospital recommended this product to me because my daughter, who was delivered by C-section, was a "lazy eater." Until my milk came in, we were using the shield in order to run a supplement while she was breast feeding.

Once my milk came in, my daughter began feeding without the shield. I had the typical pain associated with perfecting a latch, but we were getting the hang of it. My husband was feeding her breast milk with a bottle once a day so that I could sleep.

One night, my daughter refused to latch on at her 2 a.m. feeding (of course, this happens at 2 a.m.). Nothing could coax her back to the breast. After I had a complete nervous breakdown about it, I consulted my lactation resources, and saw the shield was a way to deal with nipple confusion. My daughter is headed to day care, so going between breast and bottle is something she's going to be doing. I tried this shield and she went right back to the breast. Hooray!

I have accepted that my daughter will be a "nipple shield baby." I am so glad she's breastfeeding again, and while the shield does take some extra time to put on, clean, etc., I am so greatful I can breastfeed, and I treasure the act of doing it.

It will leak a bit, and keeping it attached when my baby moves a ton is a challenge, but both are things I've learned to work with, and are a function of the product's flexibility.

I was given a nipple shield in the hospital and I thought it was the greatest thing. It does help with latching on very well. However, I wish the hospital staff would have told me it is very very hard to transition your baby to nursing without the guard. My baby wasn't gaining weight very well so I wanted to stop using the guard as I saw a lot of milk left in the guard after nursing (that wasn't going in my baby). I struggled for a week and it hurt very much trying to transition. I was able to but if I had known how hard it would be to transition I would not have used the guard in the first place.

      Best thing ever!

Comments about Medela Contact Nipple Shield 24MM:

I have inverted nipples. We are a month in and can't get a good latch or feeding to save our life. And I have lots of milk, so I have had to pump and feed in a bottle. I have the plastic ring/cup thing the hospital gave me to get my nipples out, they came out but wouldn't stay while feeding. And we got milk everywhere! But these shields... Wow... Latched right on, no pain, no mess and stayed on without getting fussy!! Highly recommend to anyone with nipple pain or hard to latch babies!

When my baby was born he did not like my breast. My nipples were too small and I couldn't latch on them. A lactatioan nurse introduced me the nipple shield and he was the best thing ever. I was able to create that bond with my child. Now I can breastfeed my baby.

I'm a first time Mom and determined to breast feed. My baby struggled (is still struggling) with latching onto my nipples. The hospital introduced me to the nipple shield & I love it! It has allowed me to continue breast feeding & allow my baby to get the hang of breast feeding until he gets stronger and can latch without it. Highly recommend for any mommies out there who want to breast feed and are having a hard time! The nipple shield saved us!

Comments about Medela Contact Nipple Shield 24MM:

I have large breast and sonewhat flat nipples so it took awhile for my baby to latch on after birth. When she finally did she couldn't get enough areola in her mouth and therefore it was like she was giving my nipples hickies every time. Eventually my baby must have felt my frustration and stopped latching on all together. I was so nervous that i would have to pump for every feedibg or switch to formula. The lactation consultant at the hospital gave me one of these to try when i was desperate and we were both in tears. She immediatly latched on with no frustration at all and i was soooo relieved! I am still using it at 3 weeks and bought 2 more as back up but do plan on trying to wean her when i feel ready.

A lactation consultant at my pediatrician recommended this nipple shield to help with my issue when breast feeding. In the hospital my daughter latched amazing and quick however when my breasts engorged and remained larger she could not latch easy so this nipple shield made it possible for me to breast feed successfully. I am not a fan of the fact that when my daughter starts to doze the nipple fills with milk and tends to spill out the bottom of the shield. It helped my daughter learn to use a bottle more easily I believe. I am happy with this product and its assistance I needed to breastfeed successfully.

My daughter had trouble latching on in the hospital and I was provided one of these. The shield has made it easier for her to latch on and eat and has made breastfeeding a lot less stressful for me. She does have to use it most of the time when she feeds.

This product saved my breastfeeding experience. Within the the first two days of nursing my son I had bruised and cracked nipples, giving me excruciating pain. Purchased the nipple shield and continued to nurse with only a few times supplementing with formula. I am now able to nurse my son while my nipples heel. It has been two days since purchase I am almost 100% pain free and my son gets the help he needed to properly latch.
