I do not like how you have to shove your hands in the pail to throw away the diapers. Unhygienic. The smells are not controlled as claimed. The system fits well in small spaces and I like the sleek design. But overall not a fan.

We purchased this when we started fostering infants, and it makes diaper duty so much better! Our nursery doesn't smell (but I do have a Scensty we turn on at night), and the pail holds a week's worth of diapers with no trouble. We struggled a bit to figure out how to empty it (user error), but now it's like clockwork. We have had several little ones, boys and girls, in our nursery, and the genie holds up to everything they dish out. :) The only negative we have is that it wasn't as sturdy as I'd hoped. However, that's just personal preference, and it doesn't affect its performance. Highly recommend!

You can use kitchen bags in this! I used the free blue ring that came with the unit and when it was empty saved the ring and rigged up a kitchen bag instead. Just look at how the plastic comes out of the blue ring - it's pretty self explanatory. I also put an arm and hammer refrigerator pack in the bottom of the unit.

So at first this thing worked fairly well. It would take the diapers and block out the oder. But then the locking mechanism on our first one broke, was irreparable and needed to be replaced. So we got another one and that worked for a brief time. But it's absolutely useless after about 6-7 months. It fills up way too fast and I began noticing our bathroom, and quickly the entire apartment wreaking of urine.
I promptly threw it out and the apartment smelled much nicer.
People, do yourselves a favor, get a bunch of plastic bags, wrap your diapers in it and just throw them out, it works just as well without shelling out for this thing. It was a good idea that wasn't executed well and in the end is just not worth it.

I am a first time mom and I love this product. As another reviewer stated, I am surprised this product does not have 5 stars! No leaving the room to throw out a dirty diaper every single time. I also do not smell a thing when dirty diapers are in it. It contains the smell very well. Its also very easy to open and empty it. It doesn't take up much space. We have ours right next to our pack n play so when changing a diaper it goes right into the diaper genie! This product is awesome!

I am amazed this product does not have five stars. This being my second pregnancy, this was the first product I went to put on my registry. When I saw a horrible review clearly promoting some baby champ product I've never heard of, I became suspicious. Do me a favor and look at every one star review and notice they all say the same negative things and about 75% of them promote Baby Champ. They sound like bad commercials...The "refills cost too much, look I have to push on a dirty diaper, should have bought a baby champ". Smells fishy to me. I did a little research on the Baby Champ product myself and wow did it have some terrible reviews. Looks to me like they are paying people to promote their product. I had a diaper genie with my son when he was an infant and it was hands down the best product I owned. I recommend it to anyone who doesn't like the smell of poo diapers in their house. Yes the refill bags cost a little money and yes you have to push the poo diapers down into the slot. But it blocks the smell and holds about a weeks worth of diapers, which based upon reviews, the diaper champ cannot. Basically, you want what these phoney reviewers are promoting (no expensive refills, no pushing down of diapers, and apparently no ability to block odors) go get a waste basket and some kitchen bags and put it next to the changing table. If you want a diaper disposal system...this is the one! Oh and btw, a mother bought this for me because she said it was the best product she ever owned.

I'm sorry, but it just chaps my rear when people ruin legit reviews because they get paid to do so.

This product was bought for me right after I had my first child and I will never use anything else! For the first two months I used a regular diaper can with regular trash bags and the smell was horrendous even after one day. My mother finally became fed up with me complaining about the odor in the nursery and bought me the Diaper Genie. Being able to walk into a fresh nursery with that wonderful new baby smell completely outweighs the slightly pricey refills any day! Plus it's incredibly simple to remove the filled bag and set up the new one. After 5 years and now pregnant with my second child the Diaper Genie is FIRST on my list of things to buy.

To keep it simple the pros about this is that, it's easy to get the old bag out and new bag in, works well with newborns (in my opinion bc of soil level and size differences ). The cons is that it does not hold in smells as well as the baby gets older because of solid food varieties so even when there is like 4 diapers in it, you can smell it across the room. The diapers do not slide well down unless they're small. So 7 month old baby bombed diapers don't always slide down and need a push or I guess tighten the diaper...a lot.
