Unchanged since I was a kid! Now my job!

Comments about Elenco 200-in-1 Electronic Project Lab:

I was 5 years old in 1984 and asked for a 50-in-1 Electronics kit. I loved it, but could only create by following the wiring guides. The next year, I asked for the bigger kit, the 200-in-1.

That was THIS kit. The VERY SAME model. It has not changed at all in 30 years, and you know what? I'm working in the electronics industry these days, and for the last decade and a half have been employed in electric motor and motion control manufacturing. I've repaired and calibrated used test equipment and sold stuff I bought for a few dollars for HUNDREDS of dollars! That's just something I did on the side a few years back!

I've also got a healthy electronics hobby on the side! I've built robots, nixie tube clocks, converted an antique radio case into a PC case with real neon indicators (not LEDs) and custom PWM fan controls, restored both antique and modern electronics, and all around have enjoyed electronics, both as my profession, and as my hobby...

And I started learning about electronics from THIS VERY KIT. While the 50-in-1 got me started, this is the one that really TAUGHT me to understand WHAT I was making... Not just to follow a wire diagram and smile when it magically works.

This is the kit that taught me.

This kit was around even before me, though it got a style revamp in the early 80s... It still looks the same. Part of me is amazed to see this for sale, unchanged, after three long decades! I have to say, that it fills me with nostalgic joy to see this thing STILL available, even after all these years!

This is an ABSOLUTELY wonderful kit to actually TEACH kids how electronics works. Even if they don't catch that "knack", it's still cool to see something YOU CREATED be able to actually do something
