This is such a wonderful educational toy. Our grandson just loves it, and carries it with him where ever he goes. When he finds something, could be a piece of grass or a dead fly, he whips out his microscope and takes a peek through the lens. (He carries it with him just about everywhere he goes!) We hope this may encourage him to further his interests in the field of science...he is only five years old, and this was a special request he had! Never would have thought to get him one otherwise. I would recommend this sort of toy for any child, and this one was good quality for this particular age group using it.

This is a CHEAP microscope, first of all. Don't expect too much out of it. That being said, it's a great scope for my seven year old, because he can explore his interests, and if he breaks it, no big deal. Considering that most people haven't handled a microscope since Jr. high or high school, I can see how it might be difficult to get a good image since this scope uses mostly ambient light, but as the old saying goes, "practice makes perfect!" You won't be able to use it in a dark room, but position next to a sunny window and it should do fine. Overall, a good beginner's scope to encourage the scientific minded child.
