we bought this when we needed something to stimulate my son to try to keep him awake. We did buy it when he was very young (3 weeks I think). i don't like all the toys it comes with- I wish they had something more exciting than the starfish and fish circles. :) But I will say- my son LOVES LOVES LOVES the soother that comes with it- he watches it and kicks around, and cries when it finishes. I use that on the mat, in his cradle, in his stroller, and in the car- I wish I could find another one of those!

He is now 6 weeks, and is starting to kick and play with toys more, though we've added many other toys that we had. The only toy we use from the mat is: octopus (kind of boring), soother, and the rattle... the best by far is the soother. He's responded to that since he was so young.

The only reason I gave this product a 4 is because we didn't really use the stuffed whale that came with it and we bought a second set of different baby einstein toys to use with it. When we rotated all of the toys every few days my daughter never seemed bored with it. She loved the music and lights maker that came with the set and octopus. We also took this with us many places and it is very portable. She used this until she was about 5 months old.

My infant son loves this play mat. It is stimulating for him and keeps his attention. It is easy to clean and you can add or adjust the toys to keep baby entertained.

This is our first 'play mat'. It is hard to tell how well it is actually working - as it applies to development. However, my son seems to enjoy playing on it. One thing I noticed though - the mat has a tendency to get a little pressed-up on one side. Also, the 'ocean music player' does not have a high enough volume setting. Other than that, my baby enjoys it and so do I :).

I recently wrote a review on this playmat that I would like to delete but don't know how to. As soon as my son learned how to roll over his feet would hit the support arches and cause the entire playmat to fold in half on top of him - like a taco. I called the company and they were very helpful stating that I must be missing the plastic supports that go under the mat which go into slits in the bottom of the mat. I searched the mat but found no slits in it and also never received plastic supports. So they mailed me a new mat and the plastic supports to go with it. And guess what? Still no slits on the bottom of the mat. I decided to take the whole thing back to BRU and they couldn't find the slits either. They refunded my money and I bought a different, non-flipping playmat for my son.

This mat is adorable but we found a flaw. My son recently learned how to roll over and sometimes he would end up sideways on the mat (head and feet by the ends of the arches that support the mat). If his feet hit the arch the mat would flip over on him - kind of making him into a baby taco. Obviously this is not ideal for a baby as it A)scares them and B) isn't safe for them. I called the company and found out that there are supposed to be little slits on the backside of the mat which accommodate plastic rods in a criss-cross, which keeps the mat stable and flat on the ground. For some reason, my mat didn't have the slits and didn't come with the plastic rods. I read some reviews and saw that another Mom had a similar 'taco' issue with her baby. So, my advice is to check the underside of your mat and make sure it has slits and rods to stablize it. If you don't, call the company for a replacement.

Got this toy as a baby shower gift and started using it when our little was 2 months, now at four months he easily reaches for the attached toys, see's himself in the mirror and shows interest in the lights/music attachment every now and then. I am disappointed that not all of the toys displayes are included and there is no place to buy them. Overall I am happy with the baby einstien franchise and have bought a few other play toys and a saucer to match.

I decided on the mat for my daughter because well to me it looked so much more interesting than the competition.
Here is my honest unguided review of this product.
the bars that you see looping overhead holding all of the items are supposed to run parallel to and level with each other. There is nothing to fix the positioning of these bars. If your child ever even lightly bats at one of these toys it will always cause one of the bars to drop lower which will in turn cause any toys linked to that bar to drop lower. the toys all hang so low your child couldnt make it under them without being touched if they military crawled. Those are my complaints but at the same time they have rendered this item useless. Big waste of money. I would never ever recommend this product.

I wanted to purchase the play mat shown in the main product photo but was confused because there were two different photos shown below. I was assured by Toys R Us customer support that I would receive the mat with the blue whale that is shown in the product search. When the toy arrived it was the other style (with less attachments and toys included) that is shown lower on the page. This version happens to be much cheaper elsewhere.
