I purchased this book when my son was a month old and we've been reading it nightly since before bedtime and nap time. He is now 16 months old and this is his favourite book one he goes back to again and again he picks it up before bedtime and sits waiting in his armchair for me with it. Such a fun little book we vary the story line every night he can find the little balloon which he loves on every page even the string for the balloon when can't see the balloon. Joe the Zoo Keeper goes from page to page with the little Gorilla right behind him. There are so many little details on each page that are carried throughout, my son has recently discovered the clock in Joe's bedroom which shows the increment in time in the last few pages. You can even see the photos in Joe's house have the Gorilla in them as a baby. He loves when Joe's wife turns on the light "Click, Click" he says as we have a similar styled light in our room. Such a great little book will treasure it always and the moments spent with my son reading it nightly.

If you're looking for a good baby-age book buy Goodnight Moon. My 4 month old gets very bored with this book. Like others have said there isn't much text but I think when he gets older we'll be able to make up a story about the illustrations together while reading it. Very cute & colorful illustrations though.

Fun, good 4 pre-reading skills and more

About Me Child Care Professional
My older daughter loved this book from 6 months old and still likes it at 4 and a half. My younger daughter was not interested until about her first birthday, and now at 2 and a half LOVES this book. Their favorite part? Me reading the multiple goodnight page varrying my voice from deep and loud to soft and high to reflect the size of the goodbye text representing the different animals. One of the best things about the book, is that despite the few words, the pictures are rich in detail, so you and the kids can tell a very short or a rather long story. As an educator, I think that the book is good for teaching inference, and a good first step in reading comprehension. It is also good for pre-phonics skills, as it has plenty of animals to make sounds for. Last but not least, not only you can play where is waldo with the little mouse, as the kids reach about 18-20 months or so, you can start to do that with the pink balloon. Great for working on visual attention and scanning.
Sparks the Imagination

One of the only board books that doesn't spell it all out for you - it actually challenges the parent to invent and vary the story night-to-night. And I love the parallel to a toddler climbing out of bed and going into his parents (zookeepers!) bed and having to be led back to their room. My son and I started reading this when he was about 18 months and he loved it right away, especially the black page with just the surprised eyes - he would laugh out loud and get excited for that page. As he got older, he'd start picking out all the details and naming the animals and things in their cages, etc. Classic.
Kind of Pointless
I found this book kind of pointless. Just Good Night, after Goodnight. To me, I thought it would be more as it resembles similar illustrations of Good Night Moon, Eric Carle books, etc. Was a good stocking stuffer, but my almost 3 year old isn't the least bit entertained by it. I had to give it 2 stars. Sorry.

About Me Parent of Two or More Children
both of my kids love this book, i have a 3 yr old and a 21 mo old, it is a very simple book about a gorilla getting out of his cage and letting all the animals out, they both love the part where the zookeepers wife wakes up, its very short and sweet and they ask me to read it every night
baby loves it
from OKC OK
I always read this book before my baby sleeps. Now she is almost 1 yr old, and still she loves it.She can turn pages by herself and enjoys looking at the colorful pictures. This book is very durable even though baby loves to chew or put into mouth. I do not have any problems with this book!

Night time all-time favorite

Not a lot of words, not a lot to the story...but our son loves this book and always has. No clue why...doesn't seem extraordinary...but I would recommend this book a million times over.
Great bedtime book

My 15-month old loves reading this book. He absolutely loves the page with the black background and just the eyes. He gets a huge grin each time he sees this page. He also enjoys looking at the pictures. We also have Goodnight Moon, which is another favorite, but he has recently started choosing this book over Goodnight Moon. I would highly recommend this book!
