I bought this in the store before I read the other reviews. I am 8 months pregnant and was able to "install" it - aka take out 2 screws from the handle and put them back in - in less than 5 minutes, the other reviewers made it sound so hard like you had to take the entire door down or something! It works great, looks nice and best of all, my 2 year old isn't able to open the door to the basement stairs anymore.

WE installed these a few weeks ago once my 12 month old son realized he could open all the doors in the house. They are very easy to install (takes two people) but he figured out how to open the doors WITH these on the same day! We've left them on because they are at least a deterrent but they do not work to keep him from opening the doors!

It only took about 3 minutes to install, so that wasn't bad, but our handles extend past the locking button. The handle swings right past it. If your handles extends more than 2" out of the door, don't even bother with this one.

My two and three year old can easily open doors with the locks on. If they hang on the door handle the door opens. Waste of money!

We bought these for our door handles and our 18 month old son quickly just pulled down on the handle and the door opened right away. completely worthless. Then when I came on here to write a bad review of it, I saw other posts about installing it upsidedown, and now it keeps him out of the doors he's not allowed to open. I'm glad that it now works, but the designers should change the installation instructions to this alternate method, otherwise, their products will end up in the trash (as ours almost did!).

p.s. The other Safety 1st "Industrial Grade" lever handle lock works GREAT the first time, and you dont have to install it upsidedown to make it work!

This product worked great on our doors and was reasonably priced. My son is 18 months old and was able to open all the doors. . . once we put these on the door knobs it solved the problem. He was not able to figure it out and it stays locked extremely well from the inside but still allows you to open the door from the outside.

Thanks to some previous reviews we installed these upside down and they are working great. Took about 15 mins to install the first one and then only 10 mins for each of the rest, not too hard at all. There are not many choices for lever style door handle locks so I'm happy that these are working well for us.

I read another review that suggested to install this lock upside down on the door. (With the sliding lock on the top.) It works perfectly. If installed the way the instructions suggest, when the child pulls the handle down it hits, but then MOST children hang on the handle which causes pressure on the lock, therefore moving it to the unlock position, and therefore enabling the child to open the door.

If you install this upside down (with the lock on the top) when the child hangs on the door handle, it cannot open. I have 10 of these on all of my doors in the house. (Bathrooms, coat closets, bedrooms, even the A/C closet) My 2 year old twins have not been able to get into any door with a handle lock, yet my 4 & 6 year olds know how to and are able to operate them just fine. LIFE SAVER!

First I was irritated that I had to take the whole door knob off, mostly because our door knobs are more difficult to take off than neccessary. Once I had the knob replaced I realized the larger lock piece wasn't wide enough to fit. I bought 4 of these, they are all going back...

It took me longer to install the lock than it did for my 2 year old son to figure out how to get around it-without seeing any adult open the door first! The teeth that are included to hold the lock in place are very flimsy and cheaply made so after only three openings I could hear the teeth inside the lock breaking off. When the teeth break off the lock becomes useless and just moves with the handle. Rendering the lock completely unreliable and the door completely available for toddlers to open. Do not trust this item on doors with toddlers without watching like a hawk; ie: outside doors, doors leading to stairs, doors to closets with cleaning products. I have replaced these locks with hook and eye locks way out of my son's reach.
