I had high hopes for this baby carrier. I have a Kelty baby carrier backpack and LOVE it. My daughter is six months old and loves to face outward in a different carrier that I have so I thought I would try this one.

I have not tried it with her facing inward, but when the flap is folded down in the front to make it into a front carrier, I am certain that she is going to fall out. There is nothing to keep her in as it does not go much above her tummy. In the picture, the front flap is in the up position for inward facing use. Imagine the top half of the flap (above the zipper) folded down and secured with the velcro strap at the bottom of the carrier. That is how it is supposed to be worn when the baby is facing forward. There is nothing to hold the baby in.

The carrier was also not comfortable for me. The straps were uncomfortable under my arms when I rested them at my side (when I wasn't trying to hold my daughter by her arms to keep her from falling out), and the straps were extremely overstuffed and not very flexible.

I buy all kinds of products online and am mostly satisfied. I have not written any reviews of the products I've purchased but felt this was so disappointing that I wanted to tell everyone to beware since I rely heavily on reviews when I purchase online.

If you've had any experience with a Kelty product before, you know what you can expect from them and the Wallaby delivers. I went into the store expecting to get the baby bjorn, but was happy to find the Kelty instead. Other reviews have commented on the complexity and difficulty of the straps, but I have found no issues and in fact like how adjustable the carrier is. I was originally using an organic cotton sling carrier with my newborn, but the fabric quickly stretched out and found myself carrying my 6 week old, 9 lb girl below my hips. I am very petite, and the kelty allows me to carry her in the perfect position on my small frame and adjusts to allow my 6'3" husband to carry her comfortably as well. Before purchasing the Wallaby I took out and tried on several of the other carriers in the store. Although i admittedly did not wear the other carriers for extended periods, i cannot imagine a more expensive carrier performing any better than the Wallaby. I also do not believe that some of the cheaper carriers I tried on could possibly match the comfort (for both me and my daughter) of the Wallaby.

FYI, I am currently using it with my 7 wk old facing me - and when the time comes to wear her facing out, there is a hoop that secures the front flap of the carrier so that it will not pop back up and hit her in the face (which is apparantly an issue with the bjorn).

Its really not that bad for the money, however, it is definitely difficult and awkward to put on and take off, especially if you are in a hurry. There are still 2 straps on there that I have NO IDEA what they are for...? But overall, if you dont have $ for the Bijorn, I would recommend this.

I have to be fair--I have not used this item much (yet), but chose it over the Baby Bjorn for (1) its price and (2) the straps. When I tried other carriers (including Baby Bjorn), the straps went straight over my chest, smashing it down, which is just too painful when you're talking about breast feeding and general discomfort. The Kelty positions the straps just like a backpack, leaving your chest unsquished and pain-free. I'm not saying it's the best, but that feature meant a lot to me.

I had a $20 front carrier with my first daughter and never liked it. So, with my second child I decided to spend a little more and hopefully get a nice carrier. I wanted a Baby Bjorn but didn't want to spend that much and thought this carrier was comparible. That was not so. This carrier was no better than my $20 carrier but it cost a lot more. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It's uncomfortable and hard to put on and take off. Taking it back today and buying the Baby Bjorn.
