This cabinet lock is perfect for use on infrequently-accessed cabinets. I've got them on the utility room cabinets (under sink area), on guest bath cabinets (under sink area), and on our CD-holding cabinets (since all our music has been digitalized). They are difficult to figure out but once you get the hang of it they are not physically hard to open. I think if you tried to use these on cabinets that you were getting into ALL the time, several times a day, then they would be extremely frustrating. For those cabinets I've got Tot Locks on the dangerous stuff (cabinets under the kitchen sink w/ cleaners, etc.) and I'm still using heavy-duty rubber bands on the other cabinets (rubber bands are wound around one knob and then wound around the opposite knob). 15-month old doesn't mess w/ the rubber bands much unless she sees that I've left one undone. Winding the rubber bands around the knobs helps deter her meddling hands. She can still open the doors a bit but it's hard to get stuff out when both doors are opening toward her but linked together w/ the rubberbands.

I bought this for my under-the-sink cupboard that I kept all the cleaners in. My son quickly learned to open the cupboards even with the drawer latches, so we simply kept toys and tupperware in the cupboards he could reach. We did want to keep the "poisons" away from him and the food prep area though. I love Safety 1st and bought this 2 pack item. I could never get the latch open myself and always had to have my husband do it for me. So, if hubby wasn't home, Mom couldn't clean. Also, my son at 16 mos learned if he held the two doors together in the middle and pulled with his weight, it would cause the latch to be forcibly opened and fall off. I went through both latches quickly after that. We are going to try the zip tie model next. Not recommended with curious little ones or parents that do not have time or patience to spend 10 minutes trying to get into the cupboard!

Gets the job done!

About Me First Time Parent
I saw this on the shelf and thought it'd be perfect for keeping my son out of the cabinets that contain cleaners and other things he shouldn't be in. He now simply plays with the lock. It fits my cabinets even though my knobs are a little further apart than noted on the label, they still fit!
Child proofed myself out of my cabinets!

About Me Parent of Two or More Children
This product is great at locking everyone out of the cabinets. It is very hard to open, even for my husband. We couldn't get it open, it took a long time. All we needed was a trash bag. I felt like Joey from Friends. I would recommend a different child lock.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Use it in lower cabinets...child proof!!!'n
By Mama T
This product is extremely difficult to use. The concept is great however unlocking this product is very challenging and does not allow quick access. Every time I need to unlock this product I struggle. I understand its child proof but should not be adult proof. I'm already looking into buying the magnetic lock systems which is child proof and extremely easy to use.
Simple to use

These locks are sturdy and durable and easier to use than other styles (especially one handed while holding an infant). Their only drawback is that they don't always expand enough for some of our cabinet handles. Otherwise a great product.
does the job

They work great. Just what we needed them for. I had adults coming to me though asking how they worked. The locks were definitely tricky to open but they look nicer than other safety mechanisms on the market these days.
Very Difficult to Open
from Urbana, IL
It is very difficult to open and close it. I think it is because the button to disengage the teeth doesn't fully retract. It is cheaply made and doesn't extend far enough to fit some of our cabinets. It does do its job at keeping the cabinets locked up. I wouldn't recommend it for frequently used cabinets.
Consider another option

This product doesn't squeeze in on our cabinet knobs right enough. Our 15 month old is able to get these off if he pulls it the right way'

Some of these are really hard to get open, some are much easier. I think perhaps it's a parent lock.
