My father assembled this dollhouse kit about 15 years ago, and I painted and decorated it for my (then) 5-year-old niece. She's in college now, and one of my fondest memories is having completed this joint project with my dad, knowing we were giving her a unique, lovingly-crafted, heirloom-quality toy. I'll be tackling another one in a few months for my daughter (Dad assembled several unfinished before he died) -- a tangible memory of the grandfather she never knew.

The pieces when unfinished are a bit rough, so it's good to sand them down very well. Also, if at all possible, I recommend painting as you go rather than squeezing yourself into the nooks and crannies once it's assembled.
