Award-Winning Game Uses Humor and Strategy

Apples to Apples has won numerous awards, including "Party Game of the Year" by Games magazine and "Mensa Select" by Mensa International, for its use of quick thinking, humor, and strategy. For teens, the game teaches them to think about how different things can be compared to one another and how analogies are formed.

Unlikely Comparisons and Analogies

General game play is as follows: players are dealt red noun cards, and the judge (a different player in each turn) draws a green adjective card and places it for all players to see. Each player then chooses the red card from his or her hand that they think best describes the green card. Once the cards are displayed, the judge decides which adjective fits best.

Players Defend Their Words--and Tell Stories

The fun is in the unexpected, apt, funny, creative, and absurd comparisons players make. A player might match "Awkward" with "Oil Spills," "My First Kiss," "Dandruff," and "Gold Chains." Or: "Painful" with "High School Reunions" and "Regis Philbin." Because each player takes turns being the judge, you begin to pick up on the preferences of each player and tailor your choices accordingly. Apples to Apples also inspires players to trade stories and associations, making it an effective icebreaker.

More Fun with Game Variations

Players can also try variations on the basic game play. For example, instead of choosing the most apt comparison, players might try choosing the red card that is least like the green one. These variations keep the game fresh and interesting every time. Apples to Apples expansion packs are also available for when players have exhausted the more than 1,000 cards included in the party box.

Apples to Apples is a game of hilarious comparisons. This wild, award-winning card and party game provides instant fun - it's as easy as comparing apples to apples. Deal the cards, then select the card from your hand that you think is best described by a card played by the judge. If the judge picks your card, you win that round. Each round is filled with surprising and outrageous comparisons from a wide range of people, places, things and events - and everyone gets a chance to be the judge. The Party Box comes complete with over 1,000 cards.

Ruth and Elliot Handler and Harold "Matt" Matson launch a new company named Mattel out of a garage workshop in Southern California in 1945. The first Mattel products are picture-frames, but Elliott soon develops a side business in dollhouse furniture made from picture frame scraps. Harold Matson soon sells out to his partner, and, encouraged by the success of the doll furniture, the Handlers turned the company's emphasis to toys. This is a great game. Great for around 8 and up and allows for a great social experience. It doesn't take lots of time, but can be played as long as you want. It is fun for family and friends.

I purchased this as an xmas gift for my daughter and her s/o (both 20-plus). My son (nearly 30) was present and all three of them are apparently enamored of the game and delighted with the acquisition thereof.
The game arrived within three days of the purchase, which was amazing.
No downers at all; I'm tickled with all aspects of the purchase and delighted it arrived so quickly.

This is a great game to play with silly, creative, fun people. Its easy to learn and can be played with adults and teens, even kids can play (although they need to be old enough to read and to understand a good amount of vocabulary).

It can be played several ways, but the most common method is to have one player select a "green apple" card with an adjective on it. Such as "hilarious" or "entertaining". The remaining players then select a "red apple" card from their hand that they think best matches the adjective in play. "Red apple" cards can be people, places, or everyday items and can be selected for their realism, for fun, or just because. Because of this there are infinite combinations of cards that can be played. So even if you play enough to memorize the cards, the game never gets old. But if you do want to add more cards, bonus sets can be combined with the original game. Lots of fun at parties as the more players the better.

The game was great ,but the cards kept falling out even after just carrying it somewhere.I spend about 5 minutes each game straightening the cards out.Otherwise,the game was hilarious and I loved it.

This is a great game for families and awesome at parties. I would reccomend this to big families. But to play you need to be able to read and you need a certain amount of people to play. But that doesn't stop my family.
