Sorry Radagast, but this set is most defiantly not a trap! I picked the new Hobbit sets up before the LEGO store got them, and I'm really pleased with all of them! The set -The largest part of the set is a three hinged wall, with a tower on one end, and two stair cases jutting out from it. On top of the tower there is a spot to hook one of two thing onto. You could hook a catapult, or a rock structure that can drop a cage, with a skeleton in it! Next to the tower there a doorway, the back blocked by a spiderweb. Next is the center room. On either end there are staircases, both leading to the upper level of Dol Guldur. If you twist the torch on the upper level the wall below it will rotate-to reveal the necromancer! The final room is a gateway, with a piece on top to drop skulls. Lastly, there is a statue, that can open up to reveal a ring, most likely a dwarven ring. Minifigs -Gandalf: Gandalf is the same as in the summer Lord of the rings sets, with a double sided face, a staff and a sword. -Radagast: One of the best parts of this set is Radagast! He is a very detailed minifigure, and even has the bird droppings running down his beard! -Azog: Another great minifig, this is that 'comic-con' exclusive...not so exclusive anymore more! With a sculpted head and an exclusive hand piece, this is one unique minifig! -Gundabad orcs: This orc redesign is great! These orcs look pretty fearsome! One has shoulder armor, but neither have hair. -The necromancer: While a pretty scary minifig, he didn't look like this in the first Hobbit film. Perhaps we see a clearer image of him in the Desolation of Smaug, or maybe LEGO let some imagination into this guy! Overall: I really like this set! While it may not be the most iconic, like Bag end, or Orthanc, it is full of great minifigs, lots of extra weapons, and some cool functions! Plus, it can connect with Dol Guldur ambush for twice the fun! P.S. Sorry I can't upload some pictures, I keep getting an error!

My son was very excited to get this set, but as we don't live near a Toys R Us, we bought it when we were at the Grandparents for Thanksgiving, and schlepped it back upstate for Chanukah. Upon opening it, we discovered A) only 3 of the 6 bags of legos was in the set; and B) one of the bags didn't even belong to the set! Since we were 4 hours away from the store, we had to call Lego. But then I had to drive around to send the box back, and my son did not get his Chanukah present. While I am happy to help Lego fix a glitch in its packaging before the big Christmas spree, it did not make for a lovely Chanukah experience for my boy. We sent the box back, and are awaiting its replacement - but Chanukah is long over.

We did get other sets, as gifts for other kids - but can't open them, to see if all the parts are there. So I just hope we are not spreading the disappointment . . .

This is a Lego set for you spring Hobbit fan. It will keep them busy putting it together, then acting out scenarios. My grandson knew exactly what he wanted and had enjoyed it very much.

        Dol Guldur

        By amazed78

Comments about LEGO The Hobbit Dol Guldur Battle (79014):

This is by far the largest Lego Hobbit set I've built as it consists of 797 pieces. The set includes six minifigures (seven if you count the skeleton), two of which are exclusive to the set (the Necromancer and Radagast). There is an abundance of play features in this set: a statue that has a base which opens up, a revolving wall, a swinging blade trap, a catapult, falling skulls, a spider web, and a cage (with a skeleton in it) that can be dropped on top of a wizard or an orc. My favorites are the statue and the skeleton cage. The set is very sturdy and can be picked up without shedding bricks all over the floor. The fortress wall is hinged and can be bent slightly. The build is not too difficult and there is very little repetition, since almost all parts of the fortress differ from each other. The most time-consuming phase of the build for me was applying the stickers, some of which are quite large. The mechanism for the falling skull trap could be a bit sturdier (the vine is a bit flimsy for the job). Also, one has to be very careful when building the trap in order to avoid the cradle/tray getting stuck with adjacent bricks when it is lowered down again. In my opinion, the fortress could have been a bit higher, since it is so very high in the movie, and I wish the set had included a section of a bridge that leads into the fortress. I, personally, did not like the combination of the interchangeable skeleton cage and catapult and I think the catapult should have been placed elsewhere. The Necromancer figure would be more intimidating had it been printed using glow-in-the-dark paint. Other than that, "Dol Guldur Battle" is nice set for battle-loving Hobbit fans. I recommend combining this set with "Dol Guldur Ambush" (79011) to further extend it.

Comments about LEGO The Hobbit Dol Guldur Battle (79014):

Dol Guldur is one of my favorite locations among the world of Middle-Earth, only because of its mysterious past and dark atmosphere. LEGO did a spectacular job with bringing Dol Guldur to life with this set. Azog the Defiler and Radagast the Brown are individually some of the coolest characters in the world of LEGO I've ever seen. From the stain on the hair of Radagast to Azog's enormous physique, it's all there! Including the Necromancer's darkly presence. The overall setting of this set is just phenomenal. I love it!

My grandsons are reading the Trilogy with their Dad and really enjoyed building these and playing with them. My son started with Lego at a young age and the grandsons followed. I feel they teach reading directions, creativity, and imagination. How can you top that?

My favorite hobbit lego set so far ;)

Comments about LEGO The Hobbit Dol Guldur Battle (79014):

This is a great lego and includes many traps and figs. It is very worthet but it is slightly overpriced. This wasn't to hard of a build, but a fun build because of all the cool traps. The Figs in this lego set are great and i recommend this to all hobbit lovers. Here are the figs. Azog- Azog's design is pretty good and is hammer is well done. Gandalf the Grey- Who doesn't love Gandalf the only problem with Gandalf is his hair tends to fall off. The Necromancer- Personally I love the Necromancer so I was psyched when they had The Necromancer. The Orcs- They are ok nothing that special about them. Radagast- I love Radagast's design. The hat is nice and his clothes are good. Now Here are the Pros and Cons Pros:The statue that has the gold ring in it is great! The sliding knife. good minifigs Great traps especially the skull that drops. Cons: Gandalf's hair falls of a lot To many stickers Doesn't look big enough unless you get Dol Guldur Ambush. Thats all i can think off! Guys this is a great fun set one of the things thats good about it is there are many ways you can model it. This is a great set and i recommend it to hobbit lovers and castle lovers. This has a spooky feel to which is good for a lego Get It I suggest it

Comments about LEGO The Hobbit Dol Guldur Battle (79014):

the hill of sorcery is one of the coolest places in the hobbit enjoying it in Lego form is wonderful. the figures to start off with are great. dont really know about the necromancer might of looked better as a totally black figure . or they could have built him in his floating dark blob mode. the azog is great really it would have been nice to give azog a hand that actually looks right. the hand could be four metal looking prongs curved to hold a weapon in the middle. i sure am glad i didn't spend a boat load of cash trying to get him when he was a comic con exclusive. i would have liked it more if this was 90 dollars and featured the dol guldur ambush then we could have gotten 4 sets different not 4 sets but only three displays because they attach. good radagast figure dont really know why hes there but an extra figure never hurt anyone. this is a pretty good set over all ( hit that like button if your exited for the battle of the five armies sets on oct 15 !)
