Product Description

The Brighton Cedar Sandbox by Big Backyard will provide your child with hours of outside fun in a safe and comfortable environment. This sandbox is 4 feet wide and 4 feet long so several children can enjoy it at the same time. While the children are in the Brighton Cedar Sandbox, shade is provided by the sandbox canopy for sun protection. When they pack it in for the night, the canopy can be lowered to double as a sandbox cover. The Brighton Cedar Sandbox also has bench seating around the entire base so your kids have a place to sit. I use the carpenter headline at request of my husband. My mother purchased this sandbox and I volunteered my husband to put it together. It took him a couple of hours and he said it was very difficult. It does have a bottom to it, I saw someone elses review saying it didn't. It is really cute when put together and my little girl loves it. The lid/canopy is easy to move and use. Over all I really like it but it is really difficult to assemble.

We were excited to find a large sandbox for our daughter as a reward for potty training, and we liked how this one had a shade built into it (since she's fair skinned). When it arrived, it was missing the main bed liner which holds the sand. I could understand overlooking a few small screws but such a huge piece? So a week later after our daughter asking every day if her sandbox was ready, the replacement liner arrived. I started to assemble this, not realizing that you have to be Jesus the carpenter to assemble it. Some of the most crucial boards do not have pre-drilled holes or even markings on it. You have to measure it, use a square, level, etc. Even then I couldn't get it perfect and the boards still cracked from the bolts when I screwed it in. The bed liner didn't fit evenly over the box...one part was too loose and the other part was too tight (where the vertical posts go up) so we had to try to cut the liner to fit. Then, the replacement shade they sent didn't have enough snaps to cover both the top shade and the base as a cover. After that I threw in the towel and bought a plastic crabbie sandbox. No assembly, just fill it and my daughter was thrilled. Don't waste your time with this canadian junk.

We were hesitant to buy this sandbox because of some negative reviews but it's awesome. My husband put it together with no problems in a couple hours. Our almost 3 year old just loves it. It looks great in our yard and the wood is a perfect match to our Gorilla playset!

Comments about Big Backyard 1009842 1009842 Brighton Cedar Sandbox:

The wood is very soft - and deteriorates very fast, so if you buy it, treat it with a polyurethane or something similar. The color/stain will otherwise come off after one summer. The cover doesn't work very well as it stretches in the sun and therefore sags and holds water when snapped over the sandbox. It would be better with two covers. If I could do it all again, I'd buy a better plastic sandbox (Step2, etc).

I bought a Big Backyark playset for my daughter for Christmas. I'm not sure what kind of wood they use but it's too light weight. Similar to balsa wood with a red cedar stain. I accidentally broke one board when I dropped it on my driveway. If you buy their products, after reading this, you deserve what you get.

Seemed like a good concept but poorly executed. No predrilled holes, you need a fully loaded tool kit to assemble this product. Looks fine when up but liner did not last very long. Would not recommend.

Comments about Big Backyard 1009842 1009842 Brighton Cedar Sandbox:

I bought this sandbox for my daughter for her third birthday. She was very excited and we thought it was just adorable. When we went to review all the items to make sure we had all the parts before starting to assemble it, we noticed we were not given the plastic liner, which is needed to assemble this sandbox. We called the manufactuer and were told we would have to wait three to five business days in order to recieve the missing part, which to us, seems way too long. Our daughter was very dissapointed and upset that she could not play in her new sandbox. The sandbox seems like it would be nice, but we are forced to wait before she can have her birthday present. It just seems that the missing part should be able to be sent to us overnight, to at least make up for thier mistake of not including it in the box.

This box takes a while to put together, but the trouble is well worth it. It is a huge hit with playgroups, since it is big enough for up to four toddlers to play in there. When covered, the sand does not get dirty but gets wet, but that's ok since wet sand is more fun than dry sand. The box looks really beautiful in our yard. Our son plays in it every day.

Comments about Big Backyard 1009842 1009842 Brighton Cedar Sandbox:

I read the reviews after putting this together and they are a bit harsh for the product.

Yes this is somewhat challenging to put together, so if you aren't fairly handy you should walk away from this one. It is easier to lay a plastic crab or frog on the ground and pour some sand into it and be done. It will take a good 1-3 hours to build this box.

However with some basic tools and skill you can build this pretty easy.

The plus side is huge. This is made of good quality cedar and should last a long time compared to the run of the mill frog/crab plastic sandbox. Also there is a nice bench all around this and it looks fantastic.

I would probably lay a piece of plastic on top of the sand then place the cover on it so that the sand stays dry as it looks like water could be an issue. Other than that, it appears to be a lot of fun!!

As others have noted, we experienced a lot of difficulty in the assembly of the sandbox. My husband is very handy and measured and drilled where there were no pre-drilled holes. The sandbox is very attractive, and I don't have any trouble moving the canopy up and down. The trouble is in keeping the sand dry. We've had the sandbox since July and it has been wet almost the entire time, too wet to play with. I wish we had gone with a less expesive model with a lid. There is no way to keep the rain out.
