Brought this for my 6 yr old son and 3 yr old daughter. I really wanted to like this toy b/c it was so well made and the design was so great. However, it is really hard to get the pieces to come together at exactly the right height and angles for the marble to roll. Plus, it is too easy to knock pieces out of place or accidently knock down your creation (which may have taken 20 mins to build), it is hard to enjoy this toy. My kids gave up after the first day and all the frustrations. They tried it again the second day, but gave up on it after that.

Nice idea, but just doesn't work in real life.

My 5 year old son, with autism got this for his birthday. All there of my boys love it and they are now 4, 6 and 13. It did take adult help to make it look like the box, but was so much fun I didn't mind. But my 4 year old now plays with it every day making his own designs on his own. All the pieces worked right and it did not break like the plastic ones we got before. My sister in law liked it so much she got one for her three kids, 3, 5, and 7. They have no problems and love it as well.

My daughter got this for her 5th birthday. She loves it! She is able to put together a small construction by herself. But if you want it to look like the box, a parent needs to help. We have a lot of fun doing this together.

I was so disappointed in this adorable marble race that I gave my son for Christmas. I have been really happy with most of the Alex toys I've bought in the past, and I expected this to be easy to use based on the large-sized blocks. However, the blocks don't work together the way they should. We have used glue to force them together in a way that will work, tape to hold parts together, and bits of paper on ramps in order to give them enough height so that the marbles go through the holes the way they're supposed to. Basically, there has to be a lot of adult intervention to get this going, but even kids older than 9 or 10 would have trouble. You have to be really innovative to get the thing to work--and good luck setting it up and down. It's too much of a pain, so we don't use it.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
