I love the concept of this toy. I am wondering if possibly some of the holes made are tighter than others. Both my husband and I have to pound it with all our might about 7+ times to get it through (he's strong--I'm not). Our 5 year old son will go at it for 3-4 minutes to get one ball down. Our 2 year old who we bought it for can't get it down at all - but loves having something he is allowed to hammer. We might return and try a different one.

I used this toy in my daycare and was very disappointed with it. The wooden slats kept coming unglued.

I love this toy. The edges are smooth the wood is finished as what is to be expected of Melissa & Doug products. I bought this for my son because he loves throwing his ball toys around and putting them in other toys. With this he can do that and see where it's going. The sound of the balls rolling down the ramp attracts his attention.

After reading the reviews I was concerned that my 15 month old wouldn't be able to hit the balls hard enough to get them through the holes. I was wrong. She loves it and goes crazy when the balls roll out at the bottom.

This is a cool toy ! Made very well, my little boy just turned 2 and he loves this and he is a strong big boy for his age and it takes him about 3 hits per ball to make them fall through. We have no problems with this!

My 22 month old loves this toy!! He can't stop hammering...and he goes and gets the balls to put back in the holes to start hammering again! Yes, the holes are a little smaller than the holes...but it has to be that way so they can hammer the ball through. He has no problem with it and all the balls fall through in 2-3 wacks of the hammer. I highly recommend this toy!! It's made of great quality and really helps with the fine motor skill of aligning the hammer with the ball.

After opening the toy Christmas morning we became aware that all of the wood was splintered at the base. [...] my son loves the toy.

my 15month old boy loves this. he can set it up on his own and hammer away. loves watching the balls rol down and is more fun and durable then the plastic toys he has. great buy!

it's fun when the balls actually go through the hole and find its way down, but the hard part is actually hitting it hard enough for the ball to go through. even my 5 year old niece has a hard time hitting the yellow ball hard enough to get it through. sometimes it's just plain stuck in there and i have to have my husband pound it out. i thought a wooden one would be more durable, but i think the plastic hammer toys are a little better for the younger ones. ...but i still love melissa and doug stuff! :)
