This was super simple to put together. It just slides together without the need for tools and there is nothing that holds it together so you can't move it around too easily. But I suppose if it were screwed together, then you couldn't take it apart for easy storage either. I am having my husband make a wooden box on casters (with a drawer to store pieces in) to set the castle on. I think it will be easier to play with if it is up off the floor a few inches. Your kids will have to lay on their belly to play with the inside nooks.

Playmobil knights are perfect for this castle-I think the Schleich ones are too big-they can't easily fit into all of the small spaces inside. You can see from my pictures how perfectly suited the playmobil ones are. I did, however, get the Schleich dragon-it's the same as the one pictured on the box.

Within the first week of owning this product the bridge broke and could no longer be attached. I now have about 6 broken pieces. When I contacted the company (toysrus), they said they do not make replacement parts and refused to help me. I feel a product that costs near $100 and made for 3-5 should be able to be played with without breaking apart. Looks like it will be going into the dumpster after 1 year of play.

Comments about Toys 'R' Us Imaginarium Medieval Castle:

Great castle. My son still wants to play with it several times per week after a year. We bought a bunch of the Schleich figurines from another store, and they worked perfectly.
This is by far the best castle that I have found in the price range and size. It has held up well, we broke the flag off the top shortly after setting it up, but I replaced the flag pole with a dowel rod.
My wife and I are able to move it while still assembeled, it is a little cumbersome, but can be done.
The bad part, to me, is that it is only sold by toys r us. We ordered this the day after Thanksgiving last year along with several other toys. 3 weeks went by and we had recieved all of the toys from our order except the castle. So I called customer service and they told me it had went out of stock so they canceled my order. I asked them why I had not been notified, and they told me it was not their policy to notify customers when something was out of stock.
The product showed in stock on the website when I ordered it, and it showed in stock when I was speaking with customer service on the phone. Which the customer serice rep aknowledged that it was indeed in stock and that I could re-order the castle. Well I searched for similar castles before ordering this one, this one was clearly the winner and I had to swallow my pride and place the order. I have not ordered from toys r us again, this is the first time that I have been back to the website, they really ticked me off, but this is a great castle and my son loves it, so I wanted to share.

Wonderful! This was purchased for my 4 yrs. son birthday! He loves it, He is now nearly 7yrs. and still plays with it! Great Quality,we purchaced knights, dragons, etc. to go with it, but he has always used his Harry Potter figurines and said it was his life sized version of Hogwarts Castle! So that could be a new imaginarium project to make a replica of the actual hogwarts castle.

My son put the castle together without problems and I told him that others had complained the castle would fall apart, when you picked it up. He solved the problem by putting duck tape on the inside corners of the walls. The tape doesn't show and it holds beautifully. It's a fabulous and well made toy and a good buy for the buck.

This Castle is awesome, my kids love it. It is large enough for several kids to play with and tall enough for larger boys. We can use large knights which is an added bonus. If your boys like Castles, Knights, Pirates or anything similar they will LOVE this.

We bought this for our 8 year old grandson 2 Christmas' ago and he has played with it over and over again. Great for his imagination. His little sister 3 years old plays with it and wants one of her own. We cut a board and covered it with green and blue felt which allows us to move it if we want to.

Comments about Toys 'R' Us Imaginarium Medieval Castle:

Despite what many may write, don't hesitate to get this castle because it "may be difficult to assemble". Fact is, if you take your time, and follow the instructions, it's really not that difficult. We purchased this for my two year-old's birthday, after his sister got a Barbie-sized doll house for Christmas three weeks earlier. While I was concerned that it was a bit soon for him, he still hasn't managed to break anything in the castle! Very impressed. Our son is a tough little dude, and capable of breaking most things.
Both the kids have spent hours and hours with this Castle. It's a great size, and basically becomes the center piece of any play area. Luckily, we have a lot of room in our home, so space is not an issue.
Note on assembly: Resist the temptation to glue pieces together. It wasn't designed to be glued. The walls interlock, and if you take time to figure things out, everything will come together just fine. At first I thought the pieces didn't match up properly. But then through some rearranging, I discovered the interlocking design is quite clever. If you force the pieces, you will break them.

The kids enjoy taking some pieces (like the tower) apart during "battles" - and that's part of the fun. If you glue things together, parts will surely be broken. Having said that, this toy is not flimsy.

Mounting the whole thing on a board does sound like a good idea, if it has to be moved. But you'll need two people to move it if you do that. I'm able to carefully pick the whole castle up by myself and move it (without a board), with only a little re-assembly needed when it reaches its new destination. For the sake of consistent play though, the castle now has a permanent home in my son's room.

The castle includes battering rams, a moving ladder, a rope bridge, and some fun wooden "waves" that slide under the lowering gate. Lots of sliding doors that work well. Painted wooden flames that slide side-to-side for attacking and "burning" the castle when dragons attack! You may want to attach a screw to the end of the gate pulley, so it doesn't slip out.

Really the only complaint, which is a valid one I think, is that NO figures are included. The lesser set sold by Imaginarium does include some great-looking figures. But the lesser Castle building is uhm . . . lesser. Not nearly as well thought-out as this larger one. I can't understand why they didn't include figures with this much better set. And Imaginarium apparently doesn't sell figures separately either. Bummer.

I ended up having to purchase Schleich Medieval figures, Knights on Horseback, Knights in Armor, foot soldiers, etc. Schleich figures are high-quality and very colorful, but also VERY expensive ($15 EACH on average). All the figures together ended up costing considerably more than the castle. We also threw in a few fire-breathing dragons. But now, the kids have a KILLER Castle setup, with all the trimmings. Totally fun. I would do it again.

The upshot is, if you're looking for a great toy, made of wood, that will stand up to boys being boys, this is a great set to buy. This castle was a pleasant surprise.

A few guidelines: You'll need some time and patience for assembly. The pieces are not terribly small (unlike Playmobile toys!), and I think perfectly safe for toddlers 2 and up. Do NOT expect to assemble this while the kids sit and wait. Big mistake. Put this set together the night before, when you can concentrate. The pictures on the box are too cool for little ones to understand "assembly required". Do yourself a favor.
Next, when you do assemble it, pick an area where it can stay for awhile. You're not going to want to move it when it's time for dinner. This set is pretty big (4ft x 4ft area required).

And finally, do read the box. Nowhere does it imply figures are included. Be prepared, and purchase a couple of Knights ahead of time. Just about anything will work, but we really enjoy the Schleich figures. We started with a few figures, and have slowly added to the set over time. Now we have two armies, a couple of dragons, and even some monster alligators who attack without warning! It's a great deal of fun. The kids will love it. Lots of quality parent-kid time potential here. And forget needing to add lights. There were no electric lights in medieval times! Our kids had no trouble using any of the "rooms". (Though the castle has become a parking garage for hot wheels from time to time)
