The mattress has a nontoxic, stain-resistant cover, and the waterproof surface is constructed from 100% food-grade polyethylene that offers a safe alternative to vinyl and PVC.














Organic cotton construction


Organic cotton is a healthier alternative to chemically treated foams and allergy-prone latex. All Naturepedic organic cotton mattresses feature 100% U.S.-grown cotton to provide a healthy, comfortable sleep environment.


Firm support


Heavy-duty orthopedic innersprings and a firm, flat surface provide strong back support in accordance with pediatrician and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) firmness recommendations. Heavy-duty border rods add support along the sides and edges of the mattress.

We researched mattresses and realized this is one of those important, safety related purchases - up there with car seats. Maybe even more important than a car seat because it is going to be used for its intended purpose everyday. Hopefully we'll never need to test the carseat.

As other reviewers have mentioned there aren't any peculiar smells to the mattress. It fit our crib perfectly. For those that find it too snug and have trouble changing the sheets, try raising one side of the mattress at a time when putting sheets on. Having a partner helping makes this easier. Snug fit = safety.

Nice firm support too. We like that it's dual density so we can flip it over as the baby grows. BTW, they put a sticker on the firm side now. It's got a great fit and finish. They even heat weld the seams so the inner mattress is sealed up.

If you don't get this mattress at least get one that doesn't have all those bad chemicals.

Not a cheap mattress, but that's kind of the point. Besides, it's Made in the USA and that's more important than ever. We feel really good about our decision to purchase this mattress.

This is the 4th Naturepedic mattress I've purchased--2 for my daughters and 2 for the babies' room at Grandma's house. The mattresses hold up well and they give peace of mind because of Naturepedic's quality non-toxic materials and construction. The only downside is that many brand sheets don't fit the mattress so previously I purchased Naturepedic's sheets and mattress pads. This go-round with new grandbabies, I went with the original zipsheets and now changing sheets on this mattress is a breeze.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

                I'm very happy with this purchase. The mattress had no smell at all when I took it out of it's packaging. It fits perfectly in my Divinci Kalani crib. My son sleeps so well on it and it's great to know he is not breathing in harmful toxins.

                            Although this is a WONDERFUL mattress (we did our research and knew this was the one - the best you can get) - the Classic 252 is not described by Naturepedic itself as a Crib & Toddler Mattress. When we received the mattress I contacted Naturepedic directly and they clarified that it is a crib mattress that also fits the toddler bed. Therefore, there isn't a "softer side" for when you begin to use it in the toddler bed. To make sure you are getting exactly what you are looking for look at the Naturepedic website before you purchase to compare all of their products. They are extremely helpful and nice to work with.

                              We were lucky to inherit a crib and dresser from my sister in law so we decided to spend a little more on the mattress although there also is a cheaper organic mattress available. We really love this mattress. It feels good in terms of firmness and we think it was a worthwhile investment since we definitely wanted a mattress that is organic so we would not have to worry about the fumes. Our little one still sleeps in a cradle in our bed and is not suing the mattress yet regularly but we think it will last a long time... including any future children.
