Product Description

Keep your curious cruiser away from off-limit areas with the Safety 1st Top of Stairs Decor Wood Gate. This espresso stained wood gate complements your home while keeping baby safely inside, or out of, certain areas. As a hardware-mounted gate, this gate is ideal for use at top of stairs, but can also be used at the bottom of stairs and between rooms for maximum versatility. The frameless design ensures that the walkway is completely clear when the gate is open and there is nothing to step over, preventing any potential trip hazards.

This gate is specially designed to be operated with one-hand, because we know parents often have their hands full. Easily open the gate by rotating the release lever and lift to swing out of the way. The sturdy hinges allow the gate to be set to swing open in one direction only for top of stairs use, or in both directions which is perfect for between rooms. This ability to choose provides you with added convenience and protection. The adjustable gate stop ensures that the gate can swing only one way for safer top of stairs use. Additionally, the one button release on the hinges makes it easy for you to remove the gate during periods of non-use.

Includes an easy to use template to ensure proper alignment and secure installation.

We bought 2 of these gates, one for the top of the staircase, one for the bottom. The main selling points of this gate is that
a) It does not have a bar that rests on the floor/stair that adults or baby would have the trip/crawl over
b) It mounts to the wall with hardware & railing posts for strength and peace of mind that baby wont crash down the steps.
c) The gate swings fully open in both directions for full passage through stairway.
d) One handed latch to open/close gate
Installation was great with the templates included for where to place the brackets.
The ONLY thing I was disappointed with was that I had to unscrew the gate to extend the width of it to fit our stairway and the wood was pressed hard together, so some of the wood finish came off once the 2 layers seperated. I used some Murphy's Oil dark wood scratch cover polish to cover it up.

We use this gate at the top of our stairs to keep our 18 month old from going up and down freely. Even though the gate looks nice, it is falling apart. The wood has started to split apart and a piece on the latch has broken which allows the gate to be opened too easily. We are wishing we would have spent a little more money and gotten a nicer, metal gate for the top of our stairs.

Comments about Safety 1st Top of Stairs Decor Swing Gate - Espresso:

This gate was good for a few months then the spring goes out where it latches. Now my daughter 17 months can open gate Just by lifting and pulling. I have to go buy a new gate now because it's not safe for her to have her able to operate gate by herself. This is the 2nd gate we've bought. We've went threw 3 closing latches. ? very disappointed and upset.

Comments about Safety 1st Top of Stairs Decor Swing Gate - Espresso:

This gate is rather flimsy since it is made out of cheap wood, especially if you have to expand it. The bars are really weak and I'm afraid that they may snap when my son pushes on it. It's a little difficult to release the gate with the "one-hand release" lock.

The overall design is a great idea but the top latch has broken. I have read some other reviews with the same issue. It still functions but now may move beyond the top latch when being closed. I would not recommend the gate for the top of stairs until the latch has been redesigned.

The piece at the top broke within a few weeks and the gate can now be opened way too easily. We are going to attempt to get a replacement part from Safety 1st.

Bought this in hopes that my 5 year old could use it independently for his own room to keep infant sister out. No such luck! I can't even open it in one move- first top, then bottom piece need to be individually done. I will be returning this item ASAP and getting the one I originally wanted and didn't want to wait for in the mail.

We are currently using this gate inside of our doorway so we have the option of keeping a door open and shutting the gate to keep the puppy out of the nursery.
It wasn't the easiest thing to put together but it is very sturdy and baby/toddler proof!

Comments about Safety 1st Top of Stairs Decor Swing Gate - Espresso:

I installed the gate at the top of the stairs to swing in over the floor as noted in the manual. Within 3 weeks the release lever broke. I contacted the manufacture but they did not respond quickly.

I would not buy a safety product from them again without seeing a demo model first.

Also, the wooden rails vertically make a cracking sound when our child pushes on them. It worries me that it would not take much force to break that part of the gate.

I will be returning it to buy a model made with metal instead.
