We Love This Math Activity Set

About Me Parent Of Two Or More Children, Stay At Home Parent

Comments about Learning Resources 100 Ant Picnic Math Activity Set:

*I received this item at no cost in exchange for my honest review.
My daughter recently turned 6 years old and is in first grade this year. Last year in kindergarten, one of hardest subjects for her was math. I know, you may be thinking how hard can math be in Kindergarten? While I do not remember adding and subtracting in Kindergarten, times have changed and now Kindergartners do learn how to add and subtract numbers. I wanted to find a fun math activity that would help my daughter understand adding and subtracting better, while not pushing it on her and making the learning process frustrating.

Included in this activity set is a 100 count activity picnic board and 100 ants-- 50 yellow and 50 blue. There is also suggested fun activities you can do with this set.

My daughter has been learning how to count by 2's, 5's and 10's in her math class at school, so right away I asked my daughter to show me how to count by 2's, then 5's, then 10's by placing the ants on the correct squares. Once she completed each task reaching to 100, I then asked her if she saw a pattern on the board. She of course immediately recognized rows and thought that was neat!

On the other side of the board is a white and red checkered board with no numbers. You are able to fill them in with a white board marker. This is great because my daughter has been practicing counting to 100 and writing those numbers out. The marker easily wipes off with a little bit of water and paper towel.

My daughter has been enjoying the task of adding and subtracting, by me placing an ant on one number and saying add 11. She'll then move forward 11 spaces and come to the correct answer. I think this is a great step in the right direction, and I have faith adding and subtracting will only get easier and one day it will just totally click!

My daughter has absolutely been loving this math activity set, and we both think the theme of ants at a picnic is super cute! I definitely recommend this to kids ages 5 and up!

Hands-on Math Activities Galore!

By Lindsey

Pros

Comments about Learning Resources 100 Ant Picnic Math Activity Set:

      What you receive:

      - 1 double-sided 100 board game quality board, one side numbered and the other blank for write and wipe purposes
      - 1 activity guide with games and ideas for using the set
      - 100 ant counters in two colors (50 of each color)

Our Thoughts: The board is pretty sturdy although with a 3-year-old and 6-year-old and the need to fold it (ahem, correctly!) every time you're finished, I've already had to add tape to ours. No matter, though – it is holding up just fine despite this. If you've ever raised little children, you know nothing remains in pristine condition.

      No-thing.

Anyway. The ant counters are cute! They are detailed, lightweight, and well-made (of a rubbery-type material). And they're perfect for lining up on your living room floor for a quick pretend play adventure. Quick, hide the picnic basket!

Overall, what I really appreciate about this activity set is its versatility (which does seem to be a trend for Learning Resources' products!) – it can be used so many different ways to teach math! You can use the counters separately or with the board-game quality hundreds chart mat, and it is large and attractive thanks to the colorful design and ant-shaped counters. It really is more "math play" than school time! Emma even spends time making up her own games on it. Also, it is unique – there isn't anything like it that I can find online. All of the above makes its $29.99 (or less on Amazon) price tag worth it.

So do I recommend it? Absolutely! For pictures of our review along with suggestions on how to use it for preschool to elementary age kids, google kindredspiritmommy and 100 ant picnic. *I received the 100 Ant Picnic set for review through the company; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Comments about Learning Resources 100 Ant Picnic Math Activity Set:

This fun math skills based set is perfect for those ages 4 and up (there are 100 small pieces – so those that will "mouth" toys, should not play with this!) and brings a fun summer-themed twist to math skill building! This set comes with a double-sided 100 board that looks like a picnic blanket! On one side, numbered 1 to 100, children can work on number recognition, counting, skip counting, number patterns, teaching evens/odds and more! The other side is a dry erase blank board and can be used in many different ways to promote learning and engagement with the numbers!

        Fun

        By Momma

Comments about Learning Resources 100 Ant Picnic Math Activity Set:

I love visual games and the 100 Ant Picnic game has a double-sided, write and wipe up to 100 board, two different colored ants totaling 100 and a fun activity guide that share seven different games/activities you can play. Or, like me I like to just get the board out and make up a game depending on what child is playing and our mood. The game is geared for children 5 and up and has been helpful with even my four year old. He really likes when I say a number and then he has to find it and place an ant on it. We also enjoy the Fistful of Counters game where he grabs the ants, counts them and then places an ant on the correct number counted. We've also talked about patterns, because the board has three different colors, and arranging ants in different ways on the grid and even doing even and odd numbers. The possibilities are really endless and if you have a child that likes visual learning, or even just a game that they don't realize they're doing "school work" check out 100 Ant Picnic. We've been having a lot of fun!

Comments about Learning Resources 100 Ant Picnic Math Activity Set:

This game comes with a picnic board and 100 yellow and blue ants. What I think I loved about this game is that there is no "set way" to play it. You can actually customize it for any of your kids! Having 3 kids ages 5 - 9, this was great because it meant I could have one game to play with each of them, while still working on math skills for their own age group.

What I think I loved about this game is that there is no "set way" to play it. You can actually customize it for any of your kids! Having 3 kids ages 5 - 9, this was great because it meant I could have one game to play with each of them, while still working on math skills for their own age group.

With my five year old, we played 2 different versions of this game. Her favorite is when we cover all of the numbers with the ants (as she is doing above). Then, I say a number and she has to figure out where it is at. She is learning how to count by 10s and figure out in which row she can find the number 56, for example. We also play a game where the board is blank and then I say a number and she has to cover it up with an ant. She has fun playing this one as well.

When it comes to my 6 (nearly 7) year old son, we are working on basic addition and subtraction. I give him basic problems, such as 5 - 2 and he has to place the ant on the number 3. It helps him to have to actually run the problem in his mind, rather than seeing it on paper, which is helping to improve his math skills in school.

I also have a nine year old. At first, she thought this game was "a baby game", so she was surprised when I was able to play this one with her as well. She has been working on mastering both multiplication and division tables in school. So, with her, we run those problems together and she places the ant on the correct answer. She actually has fun too!

As a parent, I truly believe in spending money if it means it will benefit my children.
