Our family received the Let's Imagine Elmo for free (via Bzzagent). My son is 27 months and my daughter is 5 & 1/2 years old. I know they were looking for my son to play with Elmo, but my daughter likes him more! More on that in a bit.

Packaging. Cardboard and plastic (mostly recyclable) and relatively easy to get out of the box. When you get him he is in "Demo Mode" and wearing the crown.

He comes with three hats: Crown, Pirate, Cowboy.
The Crown: when you place this on Elmo's head (I say place, but really you have to click it into a hole in between Elmo's eyeballs) Elmo plays the game "Prince Elmo Says". Like "simon says" this game is about learning to listen and follow direction. My son is not able to pick up on Elmo's cues at all. He struggles and even after prompting from myself or his big sister, he is too slow, Elmo has moved on. My daughter however likes this game. I think she just likes the crown the best because it reminds her of Princesses. She is able to follow the directions (it only asks the child to perform three tasks: bounce Elmo, Tickle Elmo's tummy and squeeze Elmo's nose). She had a hard time understanding him when he says "bounce" but we got that figured out quickly. After the child had mastered doing one task that Elmo asks, then it puts two tasks in line to have them do them in a row. This is great that the toy can become more complex and help the child learn those valuable skills.

The Cowboy Hat: In this mode Elmo tries to get the child to count to twenty. He encourages it by having the child squeeze Elmo's nose. As this is somewhat difficult to do, and harder when you add that Elmo's face is moving as he is counting, I think maybe squeezing his hand or foot may have been better.. but honestly we don't spend much time in the "cowboy hat".

The pirate hat: This mode takes the most patience and focus. Elmo tells the kids what to listen for and then plays a song. When you hear the sound you are to tickle his tummy. My 5 year old finds it a fun challenge, but there is no way my 2 year old has a clue what is going on.

Elmo it just the right size for a child 2-4, very carry-able and fun. His body and head are a little heavier, and that makes his arms and legs seem flimsy. I am not sure how much tugging his legs will be able to handle when being fished out from under other toys in the toy box. I can see his hats getting misplaced, but I think that is the risk you run for having any multi-part toy at this age range. I also think putting the hats on and taking them off requires more dexterity than a 2 year old has. My 5 year old struggles with it sometimes, and again if Elmo's head is moving from him talking it makes the task that much harder.

I don't want to make it sound like my son doesn't like Elmo, because he does. He just is not able to interact with him the way the toy was "intended", yet. He likes hugging Elmo and watching him talk along with watching his sister have fun with him. I think as my son gets older he will enjoy Elmo more and more. I am not sure how long the games on Elmo with keep the kids attention, we have only had him for a week, but as with any toy you can always put away for a time and bring back out.

In all I think it is a pretty good toy. I would consider buying it for a 3-4 year old, boy or girl.

Too Advanced for My 12 Month Son

I received Elmo free of charge from Playskool for product testing through BzzAgent. Thank you Playskool. I have a 12 month son, and this is what we thought of Let's Imagine Elmo.Read complete review

I received Elmo free of charge from Playskool for product testing through BzzAgent. Thank you Playskool. I have a 12 month son, and this is what we thought of Let's Imagine Elmo.

Elmo came safe and secure in his box. He was very easy to remove from the box. When I first held Elmo, I thought that he was very wobbly and not very sturdy. After playing with Elmo, I realized that this can be a positive attribute because Elmo is light and gentle with a young child. Elmo comes in a Try Me mode which repeats the same thing over and over. At first I thought he was broken, but then I found the hidden switch on Elmo's bottom to turn the switch into the on position.

At first my son was interested in Elmo, but then he became frightened of him. I think that he was afraid of the talking mouth (yes, Elmo's mouth moves when he talks), and the loud intensity of his voice. I wish there was a way to control the volume so that he was not always so loud. **Please note: My son is 12 months old, and the product is recommended for 2-4 years old.

Elmo comes with 4 different functions (hats), and there are 3 things that you can do to Elmo: bounce Elmo, tickle Elmo's tummy, and squeeze his nose. The hats are very easy for me to put on, but I am not sure if it would be easy for a 2-4 year old child. My 12 month son can not change out the hats. Here are what the different hats do:

Crown (Prince Elmo) - Prince Elmo plays a version of Simon Says. I think it is difficult to understand Elmo's directions at first. Once you can anticipate what he is saying, he is easier to understand. Elmo starts with one direction for the child to follow. Once the child is successful with one direction, he starts to challenge the child by giving 2 step directions. Remember, there are only 3 things you can do to Elmo (bounce Elmo, tickle Elmo's tummy, and squeeze his nose) so this function becomes very repetitive.

Sea Captain Hat (Captain Elmo) - Captain Elmo plays a sound memory game. He gives you a sound from the ocean and then asks you to press his tummy when you hear the sound. This function is very cute. There are 4 sounds (horn, seagull, bell, dolphin). Once the child is successful with identifying 1 sound, Elmo will play different sounds as a challenge, and the child is supposed to identify the right sound.

Cowboy Hat (Cowboy Elmo) - Cowboy Elmo teaches your little one to count. This is my favorite function. When you press Elmo's nose, he counts. Elmo will count up to 20.

No Hat Function - You can bounce Elmo, tickle Elmo's tummy, and squeeze his nose. Bouncing Elmo is a little awkward. You are supposed to pick him up and set him back down. You know you have completed the bounce successfully when you hear a bounce noise. It is easy to tickle Elmo's tummy and squeeze his nose.

Overall, I like Elmo. I think he is a little advanced for my 12 month old son. I will still try to interact with my son and Elmo, but I know I will be doing all of the manipulating of Elmo. Most likely, I will put Elmo away and bring him out again when he is 2 and ready to interactive with Elmo on his own.

Comments about Hasbro 1001119 Playskool Sesame Street Let's Imagine Elmo Toy:

I have a 2 1/2 year old son who has an overactive imagination and loves Elmo. This Elmo kept his interest easily. The hats were easy for him to change out, but since there was no container for the hats they get distributed all over the house. HOwever, he'd rather change out the hats than play Elmo's games. It keeps his attention, he's happy, and that makes me happy. I will say the toy sheds a lot, but the quality of the toy is good. I got to try this toy for free for being a bzzagent...thanks Playskool.

I got Let's Imagine Elmo for free thanks to Playschool. My three year old son fell in LOVE when he saw one of his favorite characters coming to live with us. He had three hats to choose from, a cowboy hat, a pirate hat, and a prince crown. My sons favorite by far was the pirate hat and my personal favorite was the prince hat since he had a cute song to go with it, but all the songs and sentences were adorable and wise. My son loved interacting with Elmo and I loved it because it allowed him to use his imagination. I HIGHLY recommend this product. Especially for the upcoming holiday!

Comments about Hasbro 1001119 Playskool Sesame Street Let's Imagine Elmo Toy:

We are big fans of Let's Imagine Elmo! He's just the right mix of cuddly plushie and interactive buddy. He's super soft, although his belly is firm from the plastic and electronic parts. My daughter (2 years) loves to switch out his hats while playing. Her favorite is the sea captain hat. It's nice to see her playing with a toy and knowing that she's actually learning while doing so. She loves to mimick the Cowboy hat's counting! I received this toy as a promotional item from playskool/bzzagent, so it was free. I don't know if it's something I would have picked off the shelf for $39.99, but it is still a great toy. We found a few cool videos to learn and play along with at sesamestreet.org and on youtube.

Comments about Hasbro 1001119 Playskool Sesame Street Let's Imagine Elmo Toy:

We were lucky enough to receive Elmo as a free product from Playschool yay! After testing him out we were asked to leave a review that represent our honest thoughts. Right out of the box Elmo was ready to play. We switched the button on back from demo to play and he started talking right away. Elmo is not too loud, but loud enough to keep the kids occupied. My 7,4,2 year olds all found him entertaining, as they do all like Elmo the best from sesame street. The two and four year olds are too young to follow Elmo's instructions ("Touch tummy when you hear the bird") fully and grasp that concept but my 7 year old loves to jump in and do it for them. Without pushing Elmo's tummy we tends to just keep repeating himself during the story. My four year old had a bit of trouble changing out the hats, but with a bit of practice he was able to. I prefer this very much over the hats being so flimsy they fall off. Those hats stay on! On the opposite side of that, just like with any other toy we tend to lose pieces. Elmo is very dependent on his hats and this toy wouldn't be very functional without them, so we keep having to hunt them down. Overall Elmo is really fun,so glad we got to try him!

We had a playdate to test out the product, the kids loved it, our only complaint is that its really hard to remove the hats, I get that I needs to stay on, but it is hard to encourage independent play if the child cannot remove the hats themselves, something like a magnet would work much better

I received Let's Imagine Elmo for free via Playskool and BzzAgent. After having him for about a month now, I'm very impressed with the toy. Elmo holds up to constant abuse by a 2 1/2 year old. While she is insanely in love with her Elmo toy and all his hats, I really feel this is a toy she is going to 'grow in to'. Right now, she doesn't quite grasp that he is asking her to do specific things - she's more excited that he makes noise if she squeezes his nose/tickles his belly. I am very excited to watch as she begins to comprehend his requests; and for now, I'm very content to play pretend with all of Elmo's personalities.
