These are simple and that is all we needed. They are a bit difficult to install because 1. the sticky stuff they come with to hold up till screwed does not stay put 2. the screws are hard to twist in. We had to mark the holes and use a drill to make a pilot hole then screwed them in by hand. If you line them up properly they work very well. Could not use on our drawers though because there wasn't enough clearance for our fingers to release it.

We put these on both cabinet doors and drawers. We decided to try these 1st because they were inexpensive and we needed over 20. They were fairly easy to install but time consuming. And within a couple of days our 1 year old figured out how to open these, but even before he figured out how to open them they were quite annoying because when they locked they still allowed cabinets to open about 1-2 inches-therefore alot of banging ensued while my son was trying to open doors.(He soon thought it was a game) My son is always on the move so after about 2 weeks he decided the extra 2 seconds it took to open the doors was too long so one by one he broke them all off.

Cheap, brittle plastic. Probably re-grind grade plastic?
The screws are cheap and twist off in your cabinets if they are true wood cabinet doors. Yes, I pre-drilled the holes and they still twist off the heads!
Simply stated, I should've spent more for a quality product.

If your child is strong enough to pull themselves up, they will yank your cabinets open like there is no safety latch at all. Don't waste your time installing these. Terrible product.

If you have hard wood cabinets look for another safety device. The screws are cheap and several of the screws broken when trying to install either the latch or the catch.

These are awesome to have in my kitchen! Definitely kept my little active daughter safe so she wouldn't keep getting into stuff she wasn't suppose to. Definitely would recommend anyone to get these and have them installed before the little one comes. That way you can get use to having them on for one, plus one less thing to have to worry about later. Safety 1st!!

Comments about Safety 1st Spring and Release Latch - 3 Pack:

I am trying to install these, but cannot tell from instructions in package which direction to face the catch. To me, it only seems to work with the screw hole loops facing out of the cabinet at the opening and the flat edge facing INTO the cabinet. However, the instructions and pictures on this website seem to show the flat edge facing out. I just do not see how the latch will catch that way, and this site provides no place to clarify the issue. The "downloadable" instructions on the product page provide a web page error. Something this small should not be this hard.

Instructions are terrible. This is the first time I have never installed cabinet latches and this was an incredibly miserable experience. I'm relatively handy as well. Once installed, the first latch broke after about 3 opening/closing. Do your self a favor and get a different product.

Installation is more difficult than it should be. The catch does not lead the latch down, so you have to manually press down on the spring to close the door, when a simple angled catch would do the job automatically.

I installed 1 latch and found the only way to get it to catch was to raise the hook to the point I had to push it down to close the door. Only 1/8", but nogo. The catch is blunt and does not lead the hook down and/or the hook does not have enough angle to lead itself down. Pushing the hook down each time I want to close the door just doesn't do it for me.

Seemed like a nice product, until I discovered that it's fundamentally flawed. The latch is angled up too high...so that it requires you to depress it to close the door. If you move the latch lower, it doesn't catch when baby pulls on it. Waste of time.

Even the instructions are flawed - it fails to mention that you'll need a drill. Not a problem for me - but I'd be embarrassed to be the merchandiser that put this on my store shelf.
