I had previously posted a comment, but have been able to get mine to work. The solution is not in the instructions. I hope to help some of you whose children opened this on Christmas like ours did. I still don't recommend to buy this.

This microphone comes configured for approximatly 100.0fm. The instructions state to start at 100.0 and scan up or down.

A little background, I am an Electrical Engineer and have made fm transmitters. There is a knob inside the unit that sets the frequency, and from one microphone to another that knob adjustment will be a little off. So, my daughters came set to ~100.5fm.

The problem comes in if there is a local radio station on the station that the microphone is configured for. Then the microphone will not be useful for a radio.

Stopping here is where most of you reading this are at, and you are probably frustrated.

Here you go, since I have no receipt to return it, I opened up our microphone to try to adjust it and discovered that it can be adjusted without opening the microphone.

Looking at the power switch, turn the microphone around and you will find a small hole above the upper screw hole. Inside this hole is a device which needs to be turned to change the frequency. You can only turn it with a very small flathead screw driver like for working on glasses. You want to turn the knob very slowly as a quarter counter-clock-wise turn will move it from about 100fm to 98fm (this is approximate).
1) Find a frequency with a lot of dead space (static) between channels (this may be hard, and you may want to find multiple to try each).
2) Set your radio for that staticy frequency
3) Turn the microphone on, and position it within a foot of the radio antenna.
4) Slowly turn the knob (counter clockwise for down, and clockwise for up) it should start from ~100.0fm.
5) If you are using a metalic screwdriver (most likely) then it will alter the fm transmitter. So when you hear different sounds start coming from the radio stop turning, and remove the screw driver. Then speak into the microphone and see if you hear yourself in the radio (you will need to turn it up).
6) Fine tune it by making small turns each way and remove the screw driver each time to test the microphone.
7) If you found a good station, and have it tuned well, you should expect it to work from about 6-8eet away from the antenna. Further than that will get static.

I do not know why the instructions does not say anything about the adjustment knob. Without it, the microphone is basically useless, as the default station probably will not work in any major city.

As for my review. Even with adjustment, the range is still short, and the antenna is quite long.

If a child receives it as a gift, they may like it, but don't give it to them until you have adjsuted it. Otherwise, they will just be frustrated.

I would not buy it for my own child mainly due to the range limitation. Children do not stay still...
