Still a favorite!

I bought this for my son when he was about 9mos because it was the only toy he reached for on the shelf - and it was off. At first, he just liked pressing ...Read complete review

I bought this for my son when he was about 9mos because it was the only toy he reached for on the shelf - and it was off. At first, he just liked pressing animal buttons because they lit up when he did, not paying too much attention to the other features. Now, at 20mos, he still chooses it from his toy box (or wherever he leaves it) and will turn it on himself (the off switch is great) and will press the yellow "note" button to hear the different songs. He flips the pages and will even press the right animal for the page. I love the fact that nearly a year later, he still plays with it.

So the good things: colorful pictures, cute music, off switch and self-off, toddler-friendly (and all that implies; i.e. throwing, drooling, chewing, stepping on, constant button pressing, etc.), and the batteries last a good while.

The not-so-good stuff: sort of heavy for infants, and the songs get annoying if played over and over for days on end (but at least the 'note' button has a nice variety). Yeah, just those two - it's really a great toy for kids.

I will also add that I have the older version of this toy, with slightly different colors than this one, but the music is the same. This is one "on a whim" toy that I do not regret buying. And you know how kids always 'play with the box' and not the toy, this is not the case with this one... even a year later!

Most Helpful Critical Review

Fun, but started messing up after 3 m

It worked fine when we first bought it but after about three months the voice started to repeat words or started to say something else when you hadn't pressed another button. It would start a verse and then stop and start another one in the middle of the first one it started. Then it would do the same thing for the verse that interupted to first one. Again and again and you weren't pressing any buttons.

my 7 month old girl, loves this! she likes to click/touch the animals faces and look/tuch the drawings, she's had 2 interactive books since last month and now she turns the pages herself and points directly at things in the book :)

Gave to my grandson for first birthday. It's a cute book if only it worked. Worked for the first day and had new batteries in it, but jams up. It would be nice if it worked because it is really nice and he enjoyed playing with it. Don't like the idea that a brand new toy does not work after playing with it half a day. Now it has to be returned for a new one, who wants to take a chance of that one not working.

Received as a gift. Loves to listen to the songs and play with the book but gets a finger pinched almost every time. We put it away until 14 months old thinking that would help but unfortunatly not, still getting pinched.

We do have an old vtech book which doesn't pinch at all so not sure what changed.

My 2 year and 8 month old love it. Great to put in the car with them, especially at night time. THe lights keep their attention. Love the volume option of low and high and also glad that it turns off!
It doesn't sing all of the words to the songs, but we always finish singing the words along with the music ourselves.

This product was a gift that we've had for about two years. My son (and subsequently, my daughter) both LOVED the toy, but it has been relegated to a "Grandpa's house ONLY" toy because it's SO annoying.

The kids love pressing the buttons and hearing various songs, but the singer is consistently flat and the song lyrics are not always correct (Ring around the rosy, the doggy chased the kitty, hush-a hush-a they all fall down?).

On a positive note, this product has been VERY durable and we haven't had any electronic issues with it. I've found (and I'm a music teacher) that the vocal quality of vtech toys tends to be on the low side - it's appealing to kids, but the singers on their toys are not good vocal role models. The best thing you can do if you want to imitate this toy is to sit down with your child and read nursery rhymes and sing the songs yourself.

That said, this has been useful when I've needed the kids to leave me alone so I can cook!

It was rated for 6 months and up. My child is 4 months and she LOVES it. She has started finding the moving parts and loves to listen to the songs and watch the lights. It really keeps her entertained. You just have to watch where her hands are when you turn the pages. As long as you are careful, it is perfect.
