Founded over 100 years ago by Edward Mead Johnson, one of the original founders of Johnson and Johnson, the Mead Johnson company produces more than 70 different products that are distributed in over 50 countries worldwide. Mead Johnson produces baby formula, vitamin and specialty nutritional supplements including Enfamil. Introduced in 1959, Enfamil baby formula has undergone several significant changes since it was invented. Each change brings Enfamil baby formula nutritionally closer to breast milk.

Edward Mead founded Mead Johnson because he wanted to make products to help people live healthier lives. After much research, Edward Mead and his son Lambert discovered a way to manufacture nutrient-rich baby food formula for infants who didnt have access to breast milk. This eventually became Enfamil baby formula.

Mead Johnson's global operations center and U.S. regional office is located in Evansville, Indiana.

This is really a great product! My daughter was diagnosed with acid reflux at about 5wks old. Dr's had us try lots of different formulas, and they thought it wasn't the formula. I thought otherwise. I decided to see a different Dr, who gave me a sample of Nutramigen to try. I noticed a difference right away. She would cry all day long and I couldn't put her down. She also gave me Goodstart to try and said it was a cheap alternative. Being that we are in the recesion I tried that last week. I gave her a couple ounces one night and the same the next day. The next two days she was soo fussy and wouldn't let me put her down. I said forget it and now she is back to sleeping during the day and not so fussy. I really wish that they would lower the price on this, but it does help that Enfamil sends out $5 coupons!! Just wish after they start drinking it that you could keep it logner than an hour in the fridge. To me it's too expensive to be throwing away!!

There's been a lot of noise by reviewers on the "old" Nutramigen versus the newer powdered Nutramigen with Enflora LGG. When I switched to formula with my son, I purchased both the powdered version of Nutramigen, which contains the Enflora LGG, and the ready to use cans, which does not contain Enflora LGG. Based on circumstances and convenience I would flip flop between both products. However, I started noticing that when we would use the powdered version of the formula my son would experience extreme gas pains and hard time passing stools. At first I chalked it up to an immature digestive system and that he was just a gassy baby, but then I noticed a pattern. Days that he was primarily on the Nutramigen with Enflora LGG would be followed up with days of intense suffering from gas. On the flip side, when I would feed him the ready made formula (basically out of laziness on my behalf), he would be content happy baby.

After noticing this pattern I contacted Enfamil to get their feedback/advice. I wasn't looking to criticize their product, but simply try and figure out if one version of the Nutramigen was a little more sensitive on my baby's stomach over the other. After talking to one of their "food technicians" they finally admitted to me that although both Nutramigen products are under the same umbrella that they do consider the regular Nutramigen and the Nutramigen with Enflora LGG TWO DIFFERENT FORMULAS. And that switching the between both product IS CONSIDERED A FORMULA CHANGE! However, they did say that most babies don't have a problem switching between the two versions. Ok that's fine and dandy, but Nutramigen is made specifically for baby's with uber sensative digestive tracks, so why wouldn't you specify that up front. Switching formulas is hard enough on any normal baby let alone those that severe digestion problems. Come on Enfamil! What's worse is that they just went and switched the old powdered formula to the new one without even letting parent's know up front. Very very very bad communication Enfamil.

Although I am very disappointed in the added probiotic in the Nutramigen, I will say that this suite of products has done wonders for both my children. My oldest had severe allergies to both soy and dairy and thrived on the Nutramigen AA. So far my second son is doing extremely well on the Ready Made Nutramigen without the Enflora LGG. It would be nice if they made the regular Nutramigen in the powdered form again for cost reasons, but overall it is a good product. It also appreas that many babies can handle and benefit from the Enflora LGG. I just wish they would have done a better job communicating the differences.

Comments about Mead Johnson Enfamil Nutramigen Powder Formula - 19.8 oz.:

I'm not one to write reviews, but I feel this product deserves one. I am the mom of twin boys who have acid reflux. We started one of them on nutramigen with baby zantac and saw amazing results. A month or so later we added his brother on nutramigen and saw the same results. They take all of their bottles, no stubborness on their end due to discomfort and we actually have increased their ounce intake on their feedings.
Cons-for sure the smell. I read reviews and thought it can't be that bad right? Oh no, it is. I really hope it does not taste like how it smells. And the other con is the cost. Unfortunately as soon as any baby product is a specialty the price goes up.

Comments about Mead Johnson Enfamil Nutramigen Powder Formula - 19.8 oz.:

We had to start supplementing our daughter with formula when she was 10 days old. We tried several formulas, including two "gentle" varieties, and she had a really hard time with all of them. Lots of gas and constipation - she was so uncomfortable all of the time, and so unhappy. Nutramigen had been recommended to us by two other parents, but we avoided it at first because of the cost. We finally got to the point where we were willing to try anything, so we started her on Nutramigen after talking to our pediatrician. It's definitely more expensive. It definitely smells pretty terrible. It definitely causes diarrhea. But within a couple of days, it felt like we were dealing with a different baby! She has been on Nutramigen for a couple of months now and does so well with it. The pediatrician assured us that her taste buds aren't developed yet, so she has no idea how bad it tastes. :) And you will get used to the smell. Also, it took about one week for her to adjust to the formula, and now she only has 1-2 dirty diapers a day (it was more like 8 per day for the first week - totally normal, according to the doctor). It may not be the right formula for every baby, but I definitely recommend at least giving it a try if your baby is having issues with other brands!

My poor baby had went thru 4 different formulas, each had some effect. Not one worked. UNTIL we tried Nutramigen. Honestly the price scared me. WOW but I was desperate, and my baby's feeling good and happiness was worth it. They claimed to help within 24-48 hours, I thought yea right! Honestly, in 48 hours she was a different baby. Happy, and able to eat! and to top the cake... I found that my insurance company, (if dr prescribed, and medically necessary) would cover a portion!!! BEST NEWS ALL YEAR!

My sons Ped prescribed this formula for my eldest twin who was showing signs of milk and soy allergy. The formula as he said smelled and probably tasted horrible as my son constantly pushed the bottle away and refused to eat it. What little he did eat he would with in minutes throw right back up. We were hoping it was just because we were going from soy to this but it's been several days and he screams after eating it and still throws up with it.

I bought this product for my 17 month old son who has a milk allergy. He's only had one bottle and the first things I liked about it is that it mixes so easily and then the fact that it did not cause any allergy symptoms to flare up. However, my son refused to drink it after a few sips of it and after smelling it I can see why. It smells and apparently tastes horrible because my son eats any and everything. So I recommend that Enfamil work on the taste and release a better tasting formula, please.

I was unable to breastfeed so I used a standard infant formula. Around this time, my son developed severe eczema. When he was around 3 months old, we consulted a pediatricion and they suspected that a milk allergy was a food trigger for his eczema. We switched him to Nutramigen and after a few weeks, his eczema was almost gone entirely. He still small patches that we are able to manage easily. He is so much happier and healthy now. Nutrimigen was a saviour for us. I just wish that we had discovered it earlier.
