I purchased this kit to supplement our middle school science curriculum. The description of the kit and supplies that come with it look intriguing, but don't be fooled. The activity guide is terrible, meaning you will get little to nothing out of your purchase. Only because I took a class on DNA in college could we muddle through very few of the activities. The directions are terrible, the explanations are terrible and even the answer key doesn't come out right. If I could've given this product 0 stars, I would have. I will not purchase any other CSI kits because of our experience with this one.

Great idea, poor design

This is a great idea to keep kids excited about science - but I'm afraid the execution is awful.

The instructions are absolutely terrible - the first polygenic exercise doesn't even give a table to identify the AaBb alleles so you can figure out which phenotype will be expressed. The decals for the hair and eye color don't even match the shape of the picture on the polygenic trait chart. I've got enough basic understanding of DNA to explain the missing information to our daughter, but it kind of misses the point to have a nice bright kit to illustrate it.

And we have had the same experience as other reviewers with the Confidential envelopes being empty and unsealed so no dramatic finish to the activity.

Product purported to have 'confidential' sealed results so you could compare your activity result with the 'proper results'. all the confidential envelopes were unsealed, and all the results cards were loose in the box. so, no way of knowing if your results was the expected correct result. agree with other reviewer, there are several errors in the kit as manufactured in 2010.
