My son was so excited to get this as a Christmas gift! He couldn't wait to dig into it. The first day we loaded it up with D batteries in the magnetic mixer base, tested to see if it worked and it worked fine with the dome in place. We didn't have time to do any more with it that day so put it away for two days.

We got it back out today and it was dead. Wouldn't work at all....put another brand new set of D batteries in it and it lasted one 15 second whirl to mix, then would not mix any more.

This set is a piece of junk. Nice concept, and my son and daughter were really enjoying the experiments (we only made it to the 2nd one, the first to use the mixer!), but the quality is atrocious. Don't waste your money!

Many reviewers state the spinner doesn't work - we had the same problem, until we put the clear plastic dome on and locked it into place. Put the batteries in according to the marks on the base (not the instruction diagram). It also needs to sit on a flat surface, and then it will work. No where in the instructions does it tell you it won't turn on without the dome clicked into place... it was a last ditch effort before returning it to the store.

Could not get the unit to work on batteries. does not come with an adapter so we could not try that option. Unfortunately this is yet another defective toys r us product. Don't waste your time, money, or effort.

Bought it as a Christmas gift. My daughter has been asking for it for 2 years. She was really excited to play with it only to be disappointed by another Toys'R'Us product. Like others have said on here the motorized unit on it does not work. If you look at the unit and compare it to the battery installation guide you'll see the units are not put together properly. The battery connectors are reversed. I can't believe this product even leaves the factory line. Also, save your receipt if you do buy it. You'll pay [$] plus tax for it, but if returned without a receipt they only give you 24.99 without tax as a refund.

This lab kit was a gift to my 11 year old grandson for his birthday. He hasn't stopped working with the experiments yet and it's a month past his birthday. This was his favorite gift and was met with "oohs" and "awwws" from his friends at the party. We'll be buying other CSI Kits for Christmas!

We have purchased 2 different kits and cannot get the motorized unit to operate on either one. Any suggestions? I find it hard to believe that two of them are defective. Can anyone help me with "troubleshooting"?
