Those little door handle covers are good up until your child is a year old, but beyond that they don't work. My 3 year old will usually stay out of rooms when told to, but my 1 1/2 year old will NOT. We didn't know what to do until we came to BRU's website to find a solution. My husband went to the store right away and came back with one of these. Well, the instruction are easy, it is easy to install, but it didn't work with the way our trim is sloped and decorative. The "latch" couldn't catch and so it would just slide right by. I was so bummed! Then my husband had the idea to fix it by nailing in an extra piece of wood with a 90 degree cut, and problems solved. The pinch guard still works perfectly and everything. Neither of our kids can get in the room now, and our sanity has been restored! Whoever invented this is a lifesaver. We are going to go back soon and get another one for a different door.

The product works as designed, but there was no mention about checking the door jamb. The key thing is to make sure you check to make sure that both sides of the jamb where the locking mechanism latches on to is square. After getting everything out of the box and mounting it, we noticed that it was not working. It turned out that one side of our door jamb is mitered with a curved edge that would not allow the locking mechanism to engage. To make it work we utilized the catches that are used for the drawer locks and mounted that to the door jamb to get the square edge that is needed.

Comments about Safety 1st Prograde Top of Door Lock:

It works great and doesn't damage the door. We don't have to worry about the kids opening the door or getting their fingers caught. Although, it can get annoying when the kids bang the door when trying to open it.

Comments about Safety 1st Prograde Top of Door Lock:

Product works great… Pretty intuitive, and keeps baby out of the pantry, which was the purpose. The arm of the product does stick out from the door when the door is open, though, and my husband caught on it and it snapped. We were able to fix it, but it's worth noting that this can easily happen since it does stick out from the door. Nonetheless, would buy it again!

Our toddler has figured out the handle child safe locks so we needed something he couldn't reach to keep him out of some rooms and closets. This is perfect, easy to use and doesn't harm the door. I like that you can click the lock off, which is nice when our son is sleeping and the lock isn't needed.

East to install. Only draw back the door cannot close all the way shut when it is disconnected. You need space between the door jam and the door.. Great for hollow doors.

Comments about Safety 1st Prograde Top of Door Lock:

Only gave it 4 stars because the first box we got had a defect with the tightening mechanism, so I recommend checking it out first. But after we exchanged it it has beeen exactly what we needed to keep our 4 1/2 year old out of her closet. I was so tired of her dozens of wardrobe changes and destroying her organized clothes during quiet time. This has been great and no damage to the door!

We installed the product how it says to. Witch is simple. We were using it for a four year old who likes to get out of the room at night to wonder the house and get into things. He had this figured out in minutes. He shook the door vigorously and pop it came open this would be great if it wasn't so easy to get to pop open. It's also very loud! When opening a door with a sleeping baby. It sounds like a fright train and will literally jolt you and baby out of bed when your husband tries to leave the room.

Older kids in the home kept taking off the door handle safety knobs so we needed another option to keep our toddler safe from their bathroom. This works perfectly! Installs so easy and basically the only way it doesn't work is if you don't close the door. There is an option too if toddler is out of house or asleep that you can manually move it to where it's not in use. Great invention!
