Comments about Kids II 1001174 Bright Starts See & Play Auto Mirror:

This is an adorable product and the baby really enjoys it, however it's not the best for the car simply because of how it's made. Unless your baby's car seat is facing forward (which it shouldn't be) you can only really secure it to the handle or hook above the car door (if your back seats have headrests however, it might work there). Hanging from the handle above the door doesn't give a good angle for the baby to see themselves. The mirror I bought doesn't have the strap they used to attach it to the front seat like in one of the images either.

I use this mirror so that I can see my baby in the car. (I didn't like that I couldn't see her while I was driving). Took me all of 30 seconds to install and adjust so I can see her in the mirror. My daughter loves to look at the bright colors and the cheerful elephant. Serves its purpose and we both get something out of it. I also bring it in sometimes to use for tummy time and I clip it to my exersaucer and it gives her instant fun mirror to play with!

          Great concept but poor excecution

          By Joleen's husband, Josh

Comments about Kids II 1001174 Bright Starts See & Play Auto Mirror:

          07-24-2010
My wife bought this See & Play mirror. We both thought it was a great idea - my wife will be able to see our (very soon-to-be) baby's face in her rear view mirror while driving. This would otherwise be impossible given that infant car seats are installed rear-facing. Sounds like a great concept, right? Well, it is. The concept anyway. Now comes the execution. My wife asked me to install the mirror this weekend (because the rear center seat is statistically the safest, that is where our car seat is). Easy/no problem, right? Wrong. I read the instructions. When installing it in a car for a rear facing car seat (there is also an option for front facing seats or even for the inside of a crib), there are two options for installing the mirror, depending on whether or not you have rear headrests. Our car does not. I could tell that, while the straps are questionably too short to be installed around a headrest base, the mirror would be way more safe/secure using a headrest (the snaps would be able to wrap around the headrest base and the buckles could snap together). If you, like us, do not have rear headrests, the instructions ask you to simply stick the plastic tabs/buckles at the end of the straps between the rear car deck and rear seat. This only provides a "wedge fit" without the buckles wrapping around anything and snapping securely together. I'm sorry, but to me that is way too unsafe. I tried it and I did not feel good at all about the unsecure fit of simply wedging the plastic tabs in the crack between the deck and seat. Imaging a sudden panic stop with enough force to pull the wedged tabs out from the crack and hurl the mirror straight at your baby's head. No thank you. I honestly think that installing the See & Play mirror this way should be banned/recalled. So, what did I do? Even though this was not an option in the instructions, I used the middle LATCH anchor point on the center rear deck (I believe the LATCH system is required on all 2002+ vehicles). I won't go in to details on how exactly I secured it, but I'll say I feel very confident that the mirror can't come detached in a panic stop (unlike the suggested method of wedge-fitting the tabs). So I am done, right? Nope. I sat in the driver's seat and looked through the car's rear view mirror to test out the See & Play mirror and, to my surprise, I had a perfect view of…… the car's ceiling. I had to take a small towel, roll it up like a Tootsie Roll and wedge it behind the See & Play mirror so that the mirror is angled down toward the car seat. Lastly, with the short straps and the propping of the mirror with the towel, the mirror (most specifically the elephant's head) sticks above the rear seat, blocking the driver's view out the rear window and causing a possible safety issue. In summary, I can't really recommend this mirror. If you intend to use it for a crib or a front facing car seat, you are probably okay. If you want to use it for a rear facing car seat, and are willing to live with/work around the shortcomings like I did, go for it - but I do suggest that you do not trust the instruction's direction for installing the mirror in cars with no rear (center) headrest.

I put my baby in the middle of our car where the pull-out headrest is bigger and wider than the usual ones...it wont fit! The belt from this mirror is too short..at it's maximum length, it can only fit the regular headrests...poorly thought of concept coz usually the middle of the car is the safest!
