Comments about The Learning Journey Techno Gears Mabrle Mania Twin Turbo Trax:

As others have stated, it does take time to build this track. But, once it's built, it is a great deal of fun. The electronic component is a great touch with the count down timer. The pieces, if put together properly, are durable and the track is fast and clean. Great deal of learning fun in the building aspect.

Poorly designed and difficult to build

Comments about The Learning Journey Techno Gears Mabrle Mania Twin Turbo Trax:

              Summary:
              - Long and frustrating building process
              - Poor design with some parts that break easily
              - Unreliable performance
              - Poor versatility

This can be a fun toy to play with, but it is extremely poorly designed, and often fails to operate properly, with marbles coming to a stop before reaching the end of the run.

Especially frustrating is the frame that holds the track together. The different lengths of frame pieces have no simple geometric relationship to each other, and the end pieces sometimes have to be oriented very specifically for other pieces to fit into them - something that could easily have been avoided with a slightly different design.

Total build time is about three hours, and I am usually in a foul mood by the end of it, due to the poor design of the toy. A far cry from delightfully designed toys like LEGO.

The braces that hold the track pieces in place are flimsy - they bend out of shape easily, rendering them useless.

Finally, do NOT buy this toy if you want a flexible marble run kit that you can rebuild in your own design. It simply isn't easy enough to build with, nor flexible enough in its design, for this purpose.

Comments about The Learning Journey Techno Gears Mabrle Mania Twin Turbo Trax:

This toy was purchased as a gift for my son for Christmas. Of all the "assembly required" toys he got this year, this was the one he wanted to build first.

Assembly takes a couple hours; there are a lot of pieces to put together. The instructions are similar in format to building lego sets, so if you're not good at 3D visualization, this may not be for you. It certainly will not be built by an 8-year old (age group on box) by him/herself. When it's together, it is pretty sturdy.

It should be noted that some pieces require a bit of force to snap into place. For example, putting the legs on the starting "gates" required more force than I was comfortable using for fear of breaking something. It also should be noted that not all pieces fit snugly and squarely together. When you have a T formed by three grey pieces connecting to a black joint, they don't fit perfectly together. However, it does not cause any functional problems.

The box doesn't really say what this toy does, so let me explain. Two people each reset a spring (by pressing down on the chute) near the starting points, then place a marble in the chute. Next, someone presses the red button on top of the cup. There is the equivalent of an audio "ready-set-go", at which point both players press their START buttons. This releases the spring, shooting the marble up the vertical tube to the top. The rest is simply watching the marbles run through the course while listening to various non-sequiturs from the digitized voice. You can see the final time (in seconds) and because each marble is colored differently, you know who won.

Once together, the track seems to work just fine. Many marble run track sets I've built in the past don't work perfectly; this one is as close to perfect as you can get.

All in all, this toy is ok; while kids may find it fun to play with, parents will probably end up doing most of the engineering to build it, and thus I find this toy de-facto not too educational. It seems that there are enough pieces to experiment with your own custom layouts, but again, I question how many (young) kids are going to do that (and how many older kids are going to actually want to play with it once they've built a track). There are other marble run sets available that aren't electronic but would allow younger kids to build and experiment with their own creations.

Comments about The Learning Journey Techno Gears Mabrle Mania Twin Turbo Trax:

First ever bad review of a toy.. possibly first review of a toy period.

This took my 8 1/2 year old son and I three days to put together. We did a few hours each each day... we needed breaks a) because the pieces are SO hard to put together that it KILLS your hands and b) it is frustrating and complicated for the adults to put together as well! We just finally finished it and have come to the realization that: - the two sides of the track are not symmetrical so the marble race isn`t even fair !!!!
                    - the marble gets stuck sometimes and doesn`t even `finish the race` ... (sigh)
AND finally, my son just noticed that the girl on the box has a fake smile, and it`s probably because she keeps getting beat by the boy because the race isn`t fair. lol

So much for the fun bonding experience of building something together over the Christmas holidays. Way too much money for too much aggravation... No idea why it won an award. (But maybe it`s just us....)

I really liked Techno gears Marble Mania Raceway.
I got it as a gift. It was expensive but worth it. It even looks like a raceway, complete with grahpic attachments and a winner's cup so you can see how long the race took. It has the exclusive plinko game and reverse spirals. Overall, I would recommend this to a freind or cousin. I use it with my dad when I have a marble race with him which is very often.

This is a really great toy. Even though it took me and my kids a little while to put it together, it was worth it in the end. They play with it all the time, and I get a kick out of watching them compete with each other for the best marble time. I like how it gets them away from the video games and doing something constructive that builds their imagination. I'm going to buy some of the other marble titles for them for Christmas.
