This is my favorite modular set out of the five I have built. It is very detailed and they do not leave a lot of wasted or empty space. It is a rather tight space to work in. The pool hall has a beautiful pool table and ceiling fan. The "glass work", "POOL", and "AL'S" signs on the front side of the building are very attractive. I rather enjoyed the amount of detail they placed in the detective's office which included a secret letter behind the picture, a wanted posted, a cluttered desk with a very nice desk lamp, hat rack, magnifying glass, fan on a storage cabinet, safe, etc. The bathroom across the hall didn't seem to fit with the rest of the building but has an element of humor to it. I was glad that there were secondary options in the set for hair/head pieces for the characters. The news stand is a welcome addition and helps make the modulars when placed together look more like a city street. I have the Parisian Restaurant modular to the left which shows off the brickwork on the side of the detective's office. I do wish that the pieces used to hang up the picture and the wanted poster were the same color as the brickwork as those fairly visible from the outside of the building. The ladder in the middle of the buildings just kind of hangs there and it more of an aesthetic piece and is not very functional. The height of the building is relatively close to that of the Brick Bank which I like because it gives bank robbers another route of escape and another element of the law to run into. Speaking of the law... the story line that goes with the building is a "sweets" prohibition era story that I rather enjoyed. The passageways aren't easy to use but creative and fun. The lady upstairs is the one baking the sweets. She does have a cat sidekick. There's a "Bricking Bad" pun in there I'm sure. It was a fun build and I'd like to see more like this.

I am overall disappointed with the set. The small size equates to limited playability, despite the Detective's Office being centered around children. I am not a fan of the "smuggling cookies and candy" storyline. As a result, the kitchen does not seem to fit in with the rest of the set. Another Lego fan mentioned that the hidden tunnels and spaces are pointless and I could not agree more. If you are starting your collection, or are on a budget, I suggest that you focus on purchasing the Parisian Restaurant, Palace Cinema, or Pet Shop. All of them are great sets. I would encourage Lego designers to stay faithful to their more mature modular-fan audience. I would recommend, if you choose to buy this set, that you convert the upper floors to a small police station. The set makes greater sense by doing so. Pros: New Pieces (Mirror) Impressive Interior Cons: Small Size Storyline (Smuggling Cookies) Lack of Sense (Kitchen is waste of precious space)

A Bit of a Step Backwards for Creator Sets

By Duckworthy

from Rochester

Comments about LEGO Creator Expert Detective's Office 10246:

I have every Creator Expert Modular Building set in this series, from the Corner Café & Hotel (2009) to this year’s Brick Bank, and every set in between. I now have a completed square city block which I display atop a makeshift table made from cheap saw horses and a 4’x4’ plywood sheet. Once it became apparent to me that Lego was releasing a new Creator kit every New Year’s since 2013 and the release of the Palace Theatre, my partner has been insisting on getting me the year’s latest set for my birthday, which is actually 4 days before Xmas (sure, there’s a bit of delay before I receive the new set, but at my age, I’m no longer counting). And the Detective’s Office was no exception. However, this was the first time I experienced a bit of disappointment & frustration with a Lego Creator Modular Building set. It’s hard to put my finger on what generated a sense of disappointment â€" I guess the set just seemed a bit lessor than previous sets, for lack of a better word. All 10 of my Modular city buildings are attached to one another, and form a complete square city block which I display on a makeshift table made from cheap saw horses and a 4’x4’ sheet of plywood. When I walk around this “tableâ€, the Detective’s Office still sort of jumps out at me as the “runt of the litterâ€, for complete lack of a better phrase, compared to the other buildings. My frustration was due to several difficulties I encountered simply trying to get various assemblies to stay attached to where they were supposed to be (the water tank on the building’s roof comes to mind), and other fragilities of significant elements of the set that should have been so fragile. But, having said all this, it’s still a Lego kit, it’s still an awesome experience to work on these sets, and in the end, I still enjoyed myself immensely, although I had to exercise self-control by limiting the amount of time I worked on the set (typically no more than 90 minutes/day), a practice I began several years ago after it was apparent I would otherwise start & finish building a set in the course of an evening, causing me into “Lego Withdrawalâ€ for a whole year until the next set would be released!

Lego detective's office

Comments about LEGO Creator Expert Detective's Office 10246:

There are many words I would use to describe this set,but the one that does it the best justice is AWESOME. The first story is great ,the pool hall is amazing and the detail on the pool table, cue rack, and gold trophy is probably the best I have ever seen. The barber shop has cool features also, like secret passages, and the checkered floor. The second story is not boring at all. The detectives office is PACKED with surprises including a big desk and a file cabinet. The second story even has a nice bathroom. The third and final story has a small but detailed bakery were they make illegal cookies. The roof has a water tower and sky light for the detectives office. Lego has out done them selves, and I would definitely recommend buying this set. You will not be disappointed.

My son purchased this set at lego shop to go in his lego city, the building experience was challenging and uses a vast range of elements and building techniques and looks great with the other modular buildings.

Comments about LEGO Creator Expert Detective's Office 10246:

The interest for me, was the 2 buildings in 1. Is that a secret passage why from the barber shop to the pool room? No as interesting as the Parisian Restaurant.

Another Great Modular

By BRIXbros

Comments about LEGO Creator Expert Detective's Office 10246:

This Is a great set! I love just about everything about it! All the play features makes it good with kids and its design is good for collectors! This is probably the best modular that LEGO has put out and I would encourage you to get it! The only thing that I do not like is it has a little to much going on with the signs and all but other than that a great set!
